This year, several characters from the Young Avengers team are expected to make their appearance together in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) production. However, it may not be the crossover event that fans have been anticipating. Over time, the MCU has been gradually introducing the new generation of superheroes through its live-action projects. Fans are excitedly awaiting the assembly of a full Young Avengers team. Previously, Marvel’s animated shows such as “What If…?” and “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” have provided platforms for characters from different parts of the MCU to interact, and this year will hopefully fulfill fans’ expectations for the Young Avengers.
The upcoming animated series, titled “Marvel Zombies,” is set to debut on Disney+ on October 3. Originating from Marvel Studios animation, this show is a continuation of the “What If…? Zombies?!” episode that aired in 2021 as part of the What If…? series. Similar to its predecessor, Marvel Zombies will feature actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) lending their voices to the animated characters in the series. Three young MCU heroes, Iman Vellani (Ms Marvel), Dominique Thorne (Ironheart), and Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), have been cast in this production. This makes Marvel Zombies the first project by Marvel Studios to feature three Young Avengers characters crossing over, excluding a Disney Cruise ship promotion.
Marvel Studios sparked intense speculation about the Young Avengers when a post-credits scene in “The Marvels” showed Kamala Khan, played by Vellani, recruiting Kate Bishop for a new team she was forming. Though the “Marvel Zombies” takes place in an alternate universe from the main MCU’s Earth-616, Vellani has hinted at thrilling moments ahead for Kamala, suggesting that her interaction with some intriguing characters may pave the way for Marvel Studios to experiment with a Young Avengers-inspired crossover.
With Thornes, Vellani, and Steinfeld leading the way, Marvel Zombies is set to resurrect MCU actors like Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff), and Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) among others. These superhero survivors will have to battle the now undead heroes and villains infected by a zombie virus in this four-episode miniseries, marking Marvel Studios’ sole October release.
Where Else Will the Young Avengers Team Up in the MCU?
After our thrilling encounter during the initial Young Avengers crossover in Marvel Zombies, I’m left pondering: when and where will we cross paths again for another exciting adventure?
In simpler terms, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced new possible team members such as America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), and Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke). It appears a full team-up is imminent, but it seems the MCU may require a couple more brief collaborations before that can occur.
In simpler terms, the upcoming live-action collaboration between the Young Avengers is expected to unfold within the storyline of “Vision Quest.” This tale is said to bring back Billy Maximoss, a member of the group, who has been separated from his brother Tommy, played by a newly cast young actor.
The upcoming solo series titled “Ironheart” featuring one of the potential young Avengers will debut on June 24th. Although no other Young Avengers characters have been officially announced for this Disney+ show, there’s a possibility that a post-credits scene or brief appearance could hint at future crossovers within the MCU. It seems highly likely that America Chavez might make an appearance in “Ironheart,” as she was previously learning ancient magic at Kamar-Taj, similar to the enchantments Riri uses for her advanced suit in the series, possibly establishing a connection between these two young heroes.
When the Young Avengers formally come together, it might not be using that title. Instead, it appears that Marvel Studios is leaning towards introducing the upcoming generation of superheroes through a “Champions” Disney+ series as their preferred method.
