It’s been 10 years since Rocket League initially debuted on PC and PS4 platforms, including its release as part of PS Plus on July 7, 2015. This “soccar” game has reached an age of 10 that may cause some to overlook the fact it’s actually a sequel to 2008’s Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. Additionally, Rocket League was one of the pioneers in cross-platform multiplayer gaming back then.
To mark the significant anniversary of Rocket League during Season 19 (ending September 17), developer Psyonix is throwing a party! You can now find 10 fresh player anthems in the shop, courtesy of Monstercat, such as “Love U Need U” by Slushii and “Rock It” by Tokyo Machine. Over the past few weeks, we’ve also witnessed the introduction of a 10th-anniversary version of DFH Stadium, along with commemorative login rewards. The studio has hinted at an exciting collaboration with deadmau5 for Rocket League Year 10, set to kick off on August 5!
Over the past ten years, there have been numerous significant events for Rocket League. Shortly after its release in 2015, the game surpassed 5 million downloads within a single month. At that time, it was priced at $20, but it transitioned to becoming free-to-play in the summer of 2020. This change occurred approximately one year after Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, acquired Psyonix in May 2019. In addition, Psyonix introduced Rocket Racing to Fortnite in 2023, ensuring that Rocket League would continue to exist alongside it.
So far, the commitment has been maintained, as demonstrated by the introduction of a new Star Wars mode for May 4 this year. Interestingly, Rocket League remains among TopMob’s top 25 free PC games and best PS5 multiplayer games, an achievement even more impressive given it’s now a decade old. The game can be played on various platforms such as PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo Switch 2 also offering compatibility through backwards functionality.
