Maya Higa’s animal sanctuary cut off by Texas floods as fans and streamers rally to help

Due to severe flooding triggered by heavy rains in Texas, the access route to Maya Higa’s animal sanctuary has unfortunately become inaccessible. The sole road leading to the property was damaged and washed away.

On July 6, the streamer and wildlife preservation advocate shared an update, displaying the devastated Alveus Sanctuary driveway. “Access will be restricted until we’ve managed to reconstruct the road,” she stated.

Located in central Texas, this shelter houses numerous animals that cannot be released back into the wild and serves as an online learning platform. Higa assured everyone that both staff members and animals are secure, but emphasized that due to necessary repairs, the site is currently inaccessible.

As a gamer, I’d say, “At Alveus Sanctuary, all our precious animals and team are safe, thank goodness! But, oh boy, our driveway is quite the sight right now. Sadly, due to the damage, nobody can come in or out until we can rebuild the road. 🥲

In 2021, Higa established Alveus after a successful charity stream that amassed over half a million dollars. Since its inception, this non-profit organization has expanded into a haven and live streaming platform, showcasing various creatures such as foxes, owls, and reptiles.

After several days of intense storms in the area, a flash flood occurred that washed away the single access route to the sanctuary, leaving them with no other choice but to depend on virtual assistance. Higa spread links for donations and urged fans to contribute to the sanctuary by tuning into its around-the-clock live streams.

Among the notable contributions was a generous donation of $10,000 made live on stream by YouTube sensation Valkyrae. This act left Higa clearly taken aback. Footage of this reaction swiftly spread like wildfire across various social media platforms.

Valkyrae has generously donated $10,000 to help fix up the damaged road!

Thank you so much for your incredible kindness!!! 😭😭😭

One of our chat participants suggested we should call the newly repaired road “Valky-Way” in honor of her generous contribution. That sounds really sweet 😭!

During the time when road repairs are being carried out, Alveus will stay active online. The sanctuary will still provide educational content for viewers via their live broadcasts.

Higa has not confirmed a timeline for when the road will be rebuilt.
