Sherlock Revival Officially Dismissed: Co-Creator Shares Surprising Reason!

co-creator Mark Gatiss dismisses the concept of a reboot series entirely.

In response to the query about a possible reboot or return of Sherlock, Gatiss simply stated, “No. We gave it our best shot, and we struck it rich with Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman]. Frankly, I can’t imagine…?

Gatiss, who also portrayed Mycroft Holmes in the hit series, added, “You’d just be doing it again.”

Gatiss continued by explaining that his latest show, titled “Bookish“, allows him to honor the style of “Sherlock” indirectly, as he assumes the role of antique bookstore owner and occasional police advisor, Gabriel Book, without needing to re-explore the cherished BBC series or its characters.

To be honest, I’ll be turning 60 next year, which is hard to believe! With so many experiences left to have, I’m determined to keep going. I’m eager to explore new opportunities, and that’s exactly what I’m after… It’s wonderful to acknowledge the brilliance of [Sherlock], but it’s equally delightful to forge ahead.

Hailing from the minds of Gatiss and ex-“Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat, this series reimagines the iconic detective character from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literature, Sherlock Holmes. The cast includes Freeman portraying Doctor John Watson, Rupert Graves enacting Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan Watson, and Andrew Scott as Jim Moriarty. Spanning four intense seasons, “Sherlock” produced a total of 13 episodes over its television broadcast.

Why Sherlock is So Worth Watching

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t ignore the fact that the first three seasons of Sherlock have garnered remarkable acclaim, with Rotten Tomatoes scoring them all above 90%. However, the fourth season and the special didn’t receive the same level of appreciation, with scores of 54% and 62%, respectively. Despite a few underwhelming episodes and a controversial ending, the series as a whole has been celebrated as a modern classic. Throughout its television run, Sherlock accumulated numerous nominations for significant awards and won many of them.
