Looney Tunes Movie Changed My Mind About Bugs Bunny

Sure thing!

Caution: The following article may reveal some spoilers from the recently released movie The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. If you haven’t watched it yet, please be mindful as you continue reading to avoid unwanted surprises. Is that clear?

I strongly advise anyone with an HBO Max subscription who appreciates animated movies, regardless of age, to check out streaming “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie“. The humor, featuring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig (both voiced by Eric Bauza), as they thwart an extraterrestrial invasion scheme, is a side-splitting delight suitable for any fan of this cherished animated series.

At one point, I considered myself a member of the “Looney Tunes” fan base, but upon reflection, I now understand that wasn’t entirely true. To be honest, I was initially reluctant to watch this latest hilarious sci-fi movie because it didn’t feature the characteristic element that originally drew me to the cartoons. However, after watching “The Day the Earth Blew Up”, my perspective shifted significantly. Let me share why…

I Thought I Couldn’t Love A Looney Tunes Cartoon Without Bugs Bunny

It’s hard to imagine not acknowledging that “Looney Tunes,” a show that predates television, is among the greatest animated TV shows ever made. Yet, labeling myself as a fan of the entire franchise might be an overstatement. Instead, I’d more accurately describe myself as a devotee of its iconic character and arguably my favorite cartoon character of all time – Bugs Bunny.

As a devoted fan of marathon Cartoon Network shows featuring the mischievous antics of Bugs Bunny, I’d often switch channels during Looney Tunes shorts starring other beloved characters like Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. However, when I chanced upon the poster for The Day the Earth Blew Up, showcasing Daffy and Porky but no sign of Bugs, my initial thought was “meh, not worth the cinema trip.” In retrospect, I can’t help but berate myself with the realization that I made a truly regrettable choice.

I Have A Greater Appreciation For Daffy Duck And Porky Pig Now

Shortly after the movie became available for streaming, I made up my mind to set aside my long-held preference for Bugs Bunny and give it a try, not just because of the numerous favorable reviews I had heard, including from Mike Reyes’ TopMob review. Instead, I felt compelled to offer some belated support for the franchise, as this specific film – the first fully animated feature given a theatrical release in its history – nearly didn’t make it, and Warner Bros. is said to be considering selling off the legendary brand altogether. Gee whiz!

Indeed, even without the recent turmoil surrounding Looney Tunes, I’m grateful I watched because it ultimately made me appreciate the significance of characters beyond Bugs Bunny. I must admit, I found myself enjoying Porky Pig more than ever in this film, as he was portrayed as a hero and even a romantic lead, which is quite different from my usual perception. Moreover, it was refreshing to see Daffy Duck depicted as an optimistic, albeit clumsy, fool rather than the cynical, near-antagonist I’m accustomed to. Considering that my understanding of these characters has always been in relation to Bugs Bunny, perhaps it was crucial for me to observe them independently for a change.

The Day The Earth Blew Up Is Also Just A Really Fun Sci-Fi Movie

It’s not necessary to be a fan of Looney Tunes to enjoy The Day the Earth Blew Up. If you appreciate comedy, sci-fi films (particularly alien invasion movies), and find a blend of these genres appealing, then you may also discover it as an excellent family film that everyone can enjoy.

At first, its unusual aspects don’t immediately appear, beginning as a genuinely engaging tale of friendship between Daffy and Porky as they endeavor to protect their childhood home. But once the intriguing plot twist with an alien guest is introduced, it becomes increasingly amusing and more exhilarating.

Following my viewing of “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” on HBO Max, I’m eagerly anticipating the late arrival of “Coyote vs. Acme”, fortunate for us it’s scheduled for 2026 (in the To Be Determined section). The kudos go to Ketchup Entertainment, the company that distributed this film and brought it to cinemas, a development I consider a significant boost for Looney Tunes lately. Perhaps it’s beneficial for them to manage the property from Warner Bros., as now I feel there are numerous Looney Tunes cartoons I need to rewatch.
