After wrapping up Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear to see that some films and series had a greater influence than others. The MCU’s Multiverse Saga has garnered criticism in recent years, but Phase 5 showcases Marvel’s attempts to steer the franchise back on course.
First Steps” kicks off Phase 6, marking the end of the Multiverse Saga, future MCU projects can learn from the successes and challenges encountered in Phase 5.
17. I Am Groot Season 2
MCU Animated Shorts Released In 2023
Kicking off the list is the second season of “I Am Groot.” As Marvel ventured into the world of Disney+, they delved into various content formats.
The animated series titled “I Am Groot” is designed primarily for children. It features adorable and humorous scenes depicting the escapades of a young Groot character.
The show, “I Am Groot,” is quite lighthearted due to its non-traditional storyline and child-friendly atmosphere, making it the least thrilling addition to Phase 5 of the Marvel series.
16. Secret Invasion
MCU Live-Action Series Released In 2023
The production titled “Secret Invasion,” boasting a star-studded cast, a captivating concept, and a somber atmosphere, unfortunately fell short of expectations.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, some major characters met unsatisfying ends. Regrettably, the number of episodes didn’t allow for a thorough exploration and build-up of the Skrull invasion plotline.
In the end, the epic CGI battle between G’iah and Gravik has gained notoriety through memes rather than excitement. It seems that “Secret Invasion” would have made a better film.
15. Echo
MCU Live-Action Series Released In 2024
In simpler terms, “Echo” is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series that faced a challenge due to its brief run, making it feel hurried and shallow in character development.
Nonetheless, there were some advantages worth mentioning. Maya Lopez seemed more captivating in this series compared to her portrayal in Hawkeye, and the dynamic between her and Kingpin was given greater emphasis.
Despite a few drawbacks, there were still some points that shone. Maya Lopez appeared to be more intriguing here than she did in Hawkeye, while her relationship with Kingpin received additional focus.
In a thrilling battle sequence, the character of Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, made an appearance. One of Echo’s strengths lies in its ability to hint at the potential for Marvel to delve deeper into more adult-oriented themes.
14. What If…? Season 3
MCU Animated Series Released In 2024
The TV series “What If…?” had the potential for endless continuation, but unfortunately, Marvel decided to end it with season 3, leaving many fans feeling let down.
It’s also worth mentioning that a significant number of situations in the last season didn’t exactly keep us on the edge of our seats. For instance, an episode centered around a dance battle stands out as rather unexciting.
Speaking of it, the third season of “What If…?” presented some intriguing narratives. Furthermore, it concluded Captain Carter’s adventure in a grandiose fashion.
13. Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania
MCU Movie Released In 2023
In terms of size as an Ant-Man film, “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” was unparalleled. Yet, it was also the smallest earner among all films in the franchise due to several factors.
In the Ant-Man movie, Kang the Conqueror, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, lived up to expectations in terms of menace. Yet, it seemed unusual that he was vanquished so effortlessly.
The subpar CGI in the Quantum Realm and the uninteresting storyline were major factors contributing to its overall poor quality.
12. Captain America: Brave New World
MCU Movie Released In 2025
Unfortunately, “Captain America: Brave New World” doesn’t quite measure up to other Captain America films in my opinion. It’s not a terrible movie by any means, but it falls short compared to the rest of the series.
In my opinion, the movie didn’t quite meet its potential. It seems that instead of focusing mainly on the Hulk, they could have given more attention to Sam Wilson as the central character.
Ultimately, the Leader turned out to be a rather unimpressive antagonist, but the film laid the groundwork for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future, as Captain America reassembled the Avengers.
11. Ironheart
MCU Live-Action Series Released In 2025
In simpler terms, “Ironheart” marked the conclusion of Phase 5 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This series depicted the character taking over from Iron Man, who temporarily turned into a criminal.
As a supporter, I can’t help but share my enthusiasm for the captivating debut of Ironheart! This comic book series offers a unique perspective on the intersection of magic and technology, two elements that often seem worlds apart. Marvel has truly outdone itself in creating such an immersive experience, where these contrasting elements not only collide but also complement each other in intriguing ways. The CGI in this production felt remarkably realistic, further enhancing the overall appeal of the series.
In addition to the series introduction, it also introduced two significant Marvel Cinematic Universe characters: Zeke Stane and Sacha Baron Cohen’s portrayal of Mephisto. The appearance of the latter had been a topic of discussion for years, and the anticipation surrounding his future role is exhilarating.
10. The Marvels
MCU Movie Released In 2023
In simple terms, “The Marvels” is the lowest-earning film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with a gross of $206.1 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Nevertheless, I think it surpasses this impression.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe film had some issues. To put it mildly, the villain Dar-Benn lacked originality, and at times, the plot seemed slow and tedious.
Indeed, the dynamics among Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau were remarkably well-coordinated, and their interactions sparkled with a palpable chemistry. The action scenes and visual effects were equally impressive, showcasing top-notch production quality.
9. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1
MCU Animated Series Released In 2025
Though the animated style may require a bit of adjustment at first, Marvel’s newest Spider-Man animated series wonderfully updates the traditional Spider-Man narrative.
The series is set in a parallel world where some major occurrences deviated from those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Significantly, instead of Iron Man, Norman Osborn assumes the role of Spider-Man’s mentor. Packed with unexpected turns, thrilling action, and captivating personalities, it makes for an outstanding Spider-Man tale.
8. What If…? Season 2
MCU Animated Series Released In 2023
It can be said that among all the multiverse series, season 2 of “What If…?” stands out as particularly impressive due to its grand storylines and unexpected twists.
Seasons | Release Year |
---|---|
What If…? Season 1 | 2021 |
What If…? Season 2 | 2023 |
What If…? Season 3 | 2024 |
In each season, it would have been more suitable if Strange Supremes narrative followed a similar pattern where they brought multiple variations of characters together.
In the second season, Marvel dared to explore both compact and towering figures. The show managed to balance ambition with entertaining, light-hearted moments.
