With a history spanning over eight decades, they’ve consistently introduced a myriad of heroes and villains. While iconic figures like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman often hog the limelight, there are numerous characters that fans yearn to see more of. Many of these characters are deserving of their own solo series.
In a variety of forms, from young talents with endless possibilities to timeless protectors who have safeguarded the world for ages, the champions of DC Comics span all descriptions. Characters such as Adam Strange and Stephanie Brown prove that DC offers something appealing to everyone, making it high time to give some lesser-known heroes their moment in the limelight.
Adam Strange Has Been a Part of the DC Universe Since the 1950s
“This is Adam Strange. I need to report a missing planet. The Earth. Terra. E-A-R…”
In his ordinary archaeologist days, Adam Strange found himself mysteriously whisked off to another galaxy amidst his work at a dig site. This unexpected journey allowed him to explore the vibrant world of Rann, one of DC Comics’ galaxies, but it was anything but a pleasant trip. Strange had been urgently called upon by beings in dire need of assistance from any intelligent life form.
Although Adam Strange didn’t acquire superpowers in a typical manner, he eventually obtained a jet-propelled spacesuit and energy weapons. Moreover, he possesses cloned eyes that enable him to observe the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Contrary to widespread assumption, “Strange Adventures” was not named after him; instead, it was the other way around.
He’s Served as a Mentor to Superhero Teams Like Young Justice
Grant me a human form. Should humanity cease to exist, may I share their fate. Let me vanish alongside those I cherish, bound by the same destiny.
Professor T.O. Morrow crafted the Red Tornado, an artificial being initially intended to cause turmoil and conflict. However, things didn’t unfold as expected by the Professor. Instead, the android combined with a character known as the Tornado Champion, leading it on a journey towards heroism instead.
After that, Red Tornado has found himself joining prominent superhero groups like the Justice League and even mentoring the newcomers in Young Justice. In the upcoming series Justice League Red, he is set to take charge of a team. It would be fascinating to witness him shine more and have a comic dedicated solely to his adventures.
Mari Jiwe McCabe Is Deeply Connected to the Red
“We can stop them from killing us. How do we stop them from hating us?”
As a passionate comics enthusiast, I hail from the land of Zambesi, where Mari Jiwe McCabe calls home. Known more famously as Vixen, she’s blazed an extraordinary trail within DC Comics. With her Tantu Totem, she’s forged an unbreakable bond with The Red. From her debut onwards, she’s collaborated with countless superhero teams, including the Justice League of America. Later, she became a part of the revitalized JLA introduced in Rebirth.
Vixen, brimming with strength, has graced the screen in her own miniseries and seems perfectly capable of headlining a standalone comic book series. Her ancestry traces back to Anansi, while her Tantu Totem grants her the ability to transform into any animal she chooses. Without this totem, however, her powers are significantly curtailed. She boasts an array of additional talents, such as controlling density, flying, and demonstrating extraordinary agility.
Detective Chimp Serves As a Protector of Myrra
“Just a Chimp with a magic sword, Lady. But you can count on me.”
Bobo T. Chimpanzee, famously known as Detective Chimp, has been active for quite some time now, but unfortunately, his accomplishments often go unnoticed. This remarkable primate detective has faced numerous challenges throughout his career, not unlike the tales surrounding Sherlock Holmes. In more recent times, Detective Chimp took part in the happenings of Justice League Dark and Dark Nights: Metal, during which he acquired a sword and assumed the role of Myrra’s protector.
One compelling argument for granting Detective Chimp his own standalone series lies in the versatility of the character across numerous genres. With his enhanced abilities, he proves to be an excellent candidate for fantasy tales, and without doubt, he would shine in a mystery-focused comic book series. Offering Detective Chimp his own solo series could significantly enrich the diversity of stories within the DC Comics universe.
She’s an Apokoliptian Soldier Who Became a Hero
This is your final recollection of a world that cherished you. There are endless red lights illuminating the landscape, and although it might seem melancholic, there’s an undeniable beauty in it.
One notable character is Big Barda; she stands among a small number of individuals. Her past is intricate, as she was previously an Apokoliptian soldier and a loyal member of the Female Furies, making her subservient to Darkseid. This dynamic shifted when she encountered Scott Free, Darkseid’s adopted son, and developed feelings for him.
Big Barda certainly packs a punch, boasting superhuman might, agility, and endurance, plus an array of additional talents. What’s more, she’s immortal, making waiting her out futile. In essence, she’s a force to be reckoned with, but the richness of her history adds layers that could make for an enticing solo comic series.
It’s Time to Bring This Blue Beetle Back Into the Spotlight
As for you, phony exosuit, do you truly believe I won’t complete what I’ve begun? Go ahead and test your luck in attempting to rule the world with someone who never finished high school by your side!”
This version maintains the original’s tone of sarcasm while using simpler language for easier understanding.
DC Comics features many legendary heroes, and Jaime Reyes is undeniably one of the finest. After merging with a mystical artifact, he became a hero, demonstrating remarkable abilities. Since then, he has led his own solo comic book series and joined various teams, such as the Teen Titans and Secret Six.
Jaime’s initial solo comic book, released in 2006, left a lasting impression on readers and there’s a great deal of anticipation for his return. One aspect that truly set his work apart was the robust ensemble he created. If granted another opportunity, this character could fill DC Comics’ void for a hero similar to Spider-Man.
He Once Starred in the Static Shock Cartoon
“We put a shock to the system.”
Fervent enthusiasts can’t seem to get their fill of adolescent superheroes, so DC Comics plans to keep producing them. Meet Virgil Hawkins, more commonly known as Static. Static is a young hero navigating the challenge of maintaining a social life, attending school, and saving the world – no simple task. His journey began after he was subjected to an experimental chemical.
In the realm of superheroes, the chemical didn’t extinguish Virgil, but rather granted him control over electromagnetic abilities. Adopting the name Static, he’s since devoted his life to combating crime. Static possesses the ability to produce raw electrical energy, create electric shields, and even form static disks. Additionally, he can manipulate various surfaces with magnetism, all thanks to his electromagnetic powers.
She’s a Proud Member of the Bat Family
As a gamer, I won’t let this slide, old man. I see what you’re up to, and I’m determined to thwart every move you make. I’ve got my strategies ready, and I’m all set to outmaneuver you at your own game.
Stephanie Brown, often known as the Cluemaster’s daughter, spent a significant portion of her childhood hoping her father would make the right decisions in life, but he consistently disappointed her. Fed up with his wrongdoings, she decided to intervene and thwart his latest malicious scheme, adopting the role of Spoiler. The demanding nature of superhero work eventually took its toll on Stephanie, leading her to stage her own death. However, she eventually resurfaced and assumed the identity of Batgirl.
As a dedicated DC Comics enthusiast, I must say that Stephanie has truly stolen our hearts among the many who’ve donned the Batgirl mantle. Despite facing immense challenges, she’s proven time and again that she belongs in the esteemed Bat-Family. While there have been some captivating Stephanie-focused storylines throughout the years, we crave more of her adventures!
