Kevin Costner‘s personally financed western film titled Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, which didn’t make a big splash at the box office, found a dedicated fan base after its release on streaming platforms. Currently, Netflix hosts the initial installment of the Horizon saga, with viewers often marathoning the movie in anticipation of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2. However, like the golden age of Westerns, all good things must come to an end, and soon, Horizon‘s run on its current streaming platform will conclude. But for those who haven’t yet seen this overlooked western masterpiece or those who can’t get enough and want to watch it 457 times more, there are still a few days left to catch Horizon on Netflix before it leaves the service.
The series “Horizon: An American Saga” will depart from Netflix’s streaming service on July 16th. Fans had anticipated that the movie’s remarkable success on streaming platforms (the film quickly climbed into Netflix’s top 10 chart upon its release) would boost the likelihood of a sequel, “Chapter 2”. However, with the movie now being removed from Netflix, it seems that the short-lived streaming agreement hasn’t been as advantageous as fans had hoped. Nevertheless, there’s some good news for dedicated fans who wish to rewatch the movie up to 458 times; they can still stream it on Max (which will soon be known as HBO Max).
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 premiered in cinemas on June 28th. Co-written, directed, produced by, and starring Kevin Costner, Horizon marks the start of his four-part cinematographic epic. In this initial installment, an illustrious ensemble cast comes together, including Sienna Miller, Ella Hunt, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Michael Rooker, Luke Wilson, Danny Huston, and others. The narrative revolves around the tumultuous genesis of the title town of Horizon in the wild American West. Costner portrays Hayes Ellison, a solitary gunslinger among the numerous wanderers and survivors seeking new beginnings in the West, who eventually finds himself in Horizon.
What Is Going On with ‘Horizon – Chapter 2’?
The main uncertainty surrounding the “Horizon” series revolves around the status of “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2”. Although the movie has been made, screened at certain film festivals, and even edited, it’s yet to find a distributor for its theatrical release. Despite some fans preferring streaming, it seems Kevin Costner is determined to have it released in theaters.
At the moment, we don’t have any updates if “Chapter 2” will hit the theaters. The situation with the franchise is quite complex due to the ongoing legal disputes involving Costner and the production companies.
Even though Chapter 2 remains undecided, Kevin Costner has moved forward and is now focusing on Chapter 3. It was recently disclosed by Danny Huston that a significant portion of Horizon – Chapter 3 has already been filmed. Intriguingly, Huston stated, “I believe he’s actually got quite a bit of Chapter 3 completed.” At present, there’s no update on whether or when we might get to witness Chapters 2 or even see them ourselves.
