Saja Boys surpass BTS to become highest-charting K-Pop band in US Spotify history

The made-up K-Pop group, the Saja Boys, who hail from the popular Netflix animated series “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” have broken records as the top-ranking K-Pop band on US Spotify charts, outperforming even the globally acclaimed BTS.

On June 20, 2025, K-Pop Demon Hunters debuted on Netflix, quickly captivating audiences worldwide and charting at number one in every country monitored by the streaming service.

The film showcases two rival K-Pop groups: the girl group ‘Hunterix’ and the boy band ‘The Saja Boys.’

In the movie, the Saja Boys gain immediate fame due to their appealing tunes and attractive physiques. It seems that their celebrity status is also reflecting in reality.

Saja Boys are so popular, they beat out BTS on US Spotify charts

On July 3rd, 2025, I’m proud to say that as a fan of the Saja Boys, they’ve made history by becoming the highest-charting K-Pop band ever on US Spotify! This means their tunes are reigning supreme in Spotify’s charts, thanks to a killer blend of album sales and nonstop streaming action.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary success of The Saja Boys. Incredibly, they’ve managed to surpass the legendary K-Pop group BTS, one of Korea’s most renowned and successful bands in history, all thanks to their captivating hit single ‘Your Idol.’ This achievement is nothing short of astounding!

Among the two unique tunes that the Saja Boys present in K-Pop Demon Hunters, one is ‘Soda Pop’, while another original composition, featuring a moody, electronic dance music vibe, was penned by EJAE (the voice behind Rumi), Mark Sonnenblick, and Vince.

EJAE has collaborated with several prominent K-Pop acts such as TWICE and aespa, sharing insights into her creative approach during an interview with Forbes in July.

EJAE shared with the media outlet, ‘There were numerous versions of each song we worked on.’ In fact, for one track alone, I’d estimate I produced around 57 different demos.

According to EJAE, the sound for ‘Your Idol’ was inspired by EXO’s songs MAMA and Obsession.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice the irony: they seem to encourage our intense devotion, as if to manipulate us, which is reminiscent of an idol in the religious sense. Growing up Christian, I was taught that idolizing something is a sin. So, it felt like a chilling twist when they said, “I’ll be your Idol.” It gave me an uneasy feeling.

I flipped the audio recording and overlapped it on the original demo. It struck me as oddly reminiscent of a cathedral’s acoustics. The effect was strange, so I decided to enhance it further by adding eerie harmonies that gave off an ancient Latin ambiance.

To put it simply, the popularity of K-Pop Demon Hunters has reached such heights that its co-director, Maggie Kang, has acknowledged that they are currently considering ideas for a follow-up.
