It’s been about a month since the movie “Ballerina” premiered on the 2025 film schedule. I enjoyed watching it, much like many film critics, but it didn’t quite reach the peaks of the original John Wick series. One of the reasons for this is as my colleague Hugh Scott noted, it significantly disrupts the timeline of the John Wick films. Fortunately, a deleted scene from “Ballerina” has addressed this plot inconsistency, though now another question has arisen in my mind.
Prior to diving into these queries, take a moment to check out this deleted scene right here, kindly provided by IGN:
This Deleted Scene Clears Up John Wick’s Role In Ballerina’s Second Half
The movie titled “Ballerina” unfolds during the time between “John Wick: Chapter 3” and before “John Wick: Chapter 4,” and it revisits a pivotal moment from the third installment where Keanu Reeves’ character, John Wick, received a “ticket” from Anjelica Huston’s character, Director of the Ruska Roma. This ticket essentially ended his association with the crime syndicate that had nurtured him and Ana de Armas’ character, Eve Macarro. However, in the second half of “Ballerina,” it seems odd when John reappears to kill Eve on behalf of The Director, as their connection was supposedly severed.
Apparently, we now understand what caused this event: there was a fresh arrangement made. In this deleted scene, John, who has lost his ring finger, can be seen relaxing on some sort of conveyance (likely a ship) when he receives a call from The Director. She had promised to facilitate his travel to the required destination in exchange for a future favor, and now she’s calling in that debt: John must assassinate Eve Macarro to satisfy Gabriel Byrne’s Chancellor and prevent a conflict between the Ruska Roma and the Cult. This is why John was so eager to assist The Director during the spinoff; he was simply fulfilling his part of this bargain.
Where Was John Wick Traveling To?
Instead of wondering why John Wick reached out to The Director despite their past confrontation in Chapter 3 (specifically, she was stabbed by Zero for allowing John passage), what piqued my interest after viewing a deleted scene from Ballerina is his destination on that transport. Can you tell me where John was heading and why it seemed crucial given his state of health at the time?

Title Ballet Dancer Chad Stahelski Voices Opinion on the Potential Continuation of the John Wick Franchise Beyond Keanu Reeves: A Shared Concern
Chad Stahelski, a ballet dancer who directs the John Wick movies, thinks the series could continue without Keanu Reeves, but we both have one worry about it.
‘I’ve been replaying the fight scene in my mind.’
In the final scenes of “John Wick: Chapter 3”, Ian McShane’s character, Winston, fired at John on the rooftop of the New York Continental. This wasn’t an act of betrayal, but rather a public show of loyalty to the High Table. Simultaneously, Winston was ensuring that John wasn’t fatally wounded, as he aimed for the bulletproof parts of his suit. Consequently, John was severely injured in the film and survived only due to being transported to The Bowery King’s hidden sanctuary below the city streets.
In the commencement of “John Wick: Chapter 4”, there appears to be a continuity suggesting that John Wick spent his recovery time in New York City post-“Chapter 3”. However, the film “Ballerina” hinted at his ability to execute at least one international mission. Perhaps it was even two missions, considering he had somewhere else to go before The Director intervened during his travels? Where exactly was this location and what relation does it hold with his recuperation or the vendetta against the High Table that John Wick was pursuing?
It’s possible that an additional cut scene from the movie “Ballerina” could provide the answer I’m seeking, but I’ll manage if it doesn’t. I’m just relieved that the puzzle I pondered after watching “Ballerina” in the theater has finally been clarified. If only they had shown that scene in the film itself.
