1 million people have signed the “Stop Killing Games” campaign, a milestone achieved with support from influential personalities such as PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, Asmongold, and more.
The initiative “Stop the End of Games” emerged in April 2024, spearheaded by YouTuber Accursed Farms and driven by gamers. This movement aims to prevent game developers from ceasing updates or support for online games once their official life cycle ends. In other words, it encourages companies to maintain these games so that players can continue enjoying them even after they’ve been retired, or “sunset.
Stop Killing Games has submitted numerous petitions across Europe with the goal of safeguarding online gaming. Currently, they’re striving to collect one million signatures for the European Citizens’ Initiative. According to their official site, there’s a high likelihood that the European Commission will enact legislation to secure online games if the signature target is reached.
Stop Killing Games petition finally reaches 1M signatures
About a year ago, the movement gathered one million signatures, according to Accursed Farms’ joyful tweet on July 3, 2025. Although this milestone deserves acknowledgement, he cautioned that some of these signatures might be fake and submitted by individuals who are not EU residents.
He posted that the website indicates 1 million signatures have been collected! Unfortunately, it’s possible a substantial portion might be fake ones. This implies we need to intensify our efforts even more to counterbalance them! Expect a video about this issue later today.
As a supporter, it’s thrilling to see that our efforts have reached the milestone of one million signatures! However, I can’t help but express my concern that there might be some inauthentic signatures among them. This means we need to redouble our efforts and keep signing at an even faster pace to compensate for these potential fake ones! I’ll share more details about this situation in a video I’ll post later today.
In this version, the text is rewritten in first-person perspective from that of a fan or supporter, expressing excitement about reaching the milestone while also acknowledging concerns regarding potentially fraudulent signatures and emphasizing the need for continued action to make up for them. The video mention has been added to provide more context and information.

To be completely honest, the site’s influx of passionate visitors was overwhelming, causing it to briefly shutter as we all flocked to lend our signatures to the petition.
PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye & Asmongold support Stop Killing Games
This development follows prominent personalities within the digital gaming world expressing their views on this topic, among them being popular content makers such as PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, and Asmongold.
On July 1st, PewDiePie rallied his 110 million followers in a YouTube community post, expressing his full endorsement and support for this cause by stating, “I am completely behind this movement.
As a devoted gamer like Jacksepticeye, I recently shared a video on my alternative YouTube platform about Stop Killing Games. I’m encouraging my European audience to lend their voices by signing the necessary forms.
He stated that this is a clear victory for us. Even if it may seem awkward or out of place to those outside the gaming community, at least gamers will have an opportunity to express their opinions.
Additionally, Asmongold encouraged his followers by tweeting, “If you’re based in the EU and value game preservation and consumer rights, please take a moment to sign this petition.
After approximately 10 months and amassing more than 800,000 signatures, the “Stop Killing Games” campaign is nearing its goal of 1 million signatures. If you’re from the EU and value game preservation and consumer rights, please consider adding your name to this petition.

Despite the possibility that some of those signatures might be fabricated, surpassing the 1 million mark is a significant achievement for those working to secure online games. This success is particularly noteworthy given the ongoing discussions triggered by YouTube personality and software developer Pirate Software.
In response to the announcement of Stop Killing Games in April 2024, Pirate Software voiced their opposition and have consistently reinforced this stance since then. They argue that the initiative is overly broad, impractical, and potentially harmful as it could set a negative example for the gaming industry by stifling creativity and innovation.
Notable content creators such as MoistCritikal and SomeOrdinaryGamers have openly disagreed with Pirate Software’s perspective on this matter, expressing their disapproval over his skepticism towards the movement. They fear that his actions might inadvertently undermine something that could prove beneficial for preserving video games in the long run.
With the European Citizens’ Initiative amassing 1 million signatures, Pirate Software has decided to relinquish his position at Offbrand Games following the negative response towards him, which led to the publisher’s games being heavily criticized in reviews. Since then, he has remained silent on the topic of Stop Killing Games.
