Charlize Theron Isn’t Naming Names

Charlize Theron and Alex Cooper share a troubling similarity: they have both experienced sexual harassment in their respective careers. In the latest episode of Call Her Daddy, they discussed their encounters with harassment and the self-blame they felt afterward. Specifically, Cooper disclosed her experience with sexual harassment by her soccer coach in the documentary Call Her Alex, while Theron spoke about a director who harassed her during an audition on The Howard Stern Show in 2019. Both women expressed anger and disappointment towards themselves for allowing such incidents to happen.

During my very first audition, I found myself in an unusual situation. A director invited me to his home, where upon opening the door, he was clad in his nightwear. As we progressed with the audition, he kept interrupting me, and at one point, he even placed his hand on my knee. Feeling uncomfortable, I decided it was best to leave immediately.

In one instance, Charlize Theron did not reveal the name of the director she accused of harassment, unlike Cooper who named her soccer coach from Boston University, Nancy Feldman. However, Theron did mention that after she shared her story in 2019, he became uneasy and sent a letter attempting to justify his actions and clarify her misinterpretation. She stated, “I won’t even say your name because you know you’re the scoundrel. You know it’s you, and if anyone ever asks me about him, I would be truthful. And he knows that. And I kind of enjoy that he’s in a difficult position. He doesn’t know when his turn will come.” Theron added, “I kind of like that a little more.” This suggests that both individuals are aware of the accusations against them and Theron enjoys keeping the accused in a state of uncertainty regarding when they might face further consequences for their actions.
