Over on Steam, Void Interactive’s Ready or Not has been a big success, earning positive feedback from both critics and players. However, recently, the developer has faced backlash as the game has been bombarded with negative reviews. The cause? To get the console version certified, Void removed some content from the game.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve ensured throughout our console port process that alterations are made only when it’s crucial, as mandated by our first-party partners. These changes are designed to maintain the authentic tone of the game, so there’s no need for concern. For those curious about ratings, our console version is rated ESRB Mature (M), PEGI 18, and USK 18.
However, it’s important to note that console platforms have specific content requirements for their systems. Consequently, certain adjustments will be noticeable in the PC version as well.
In his explanation, Void pointed out the alterations in the intensity of grisly scenes, emphasizing however that overall, the core elements remain intact. To illustrate, although dismemberment remains a significant aspect, it’s been slightly restricted in the game.
In the game, when an enemy is shot while still alive, they may experience disintegration; however, once an enemy has been killed, no additional disintegration takes place. It’s worth noting that the extent of the disintegration itself remains unchanged. Essentially, we believe this balance is acceptable given that our gameplay design discourages the use of lethal force in the first place.
Many players vehemently disagreed.
As a passionate gamer, I can honestly say that I adore this game. The thrill of competing against other players is unmatched. However, with the latest implementation of censorship for consoles, I regret to say that it’s no longer enjoyable. I wish they had simply created a separate version instead.
Due to an increase in feedback recently received, Ready or Not’s current evaluation within the past month – solely dependent on recent reviews – has shifted from “very positive” to “mixed.” Nevertheless, many enthusiasts don’t view these adjustments as a significant concern.
As a newcomer to the game, I must admit that I’ve found an unexpected delight in it, despite some minor bugs. However, these issues are quite insignificant compared to the joy the game has brought me so far. To top it off, this game is now shared among my brothers and it’s become a fantastic bonding experience for us.
The game “Ready or Not” is discounted until July 10! You can grab the basic version for just $25, or opt for the bundle that includes the DLCs for only $39.
