It might surprise you to learn that, despite the John Wick movie franchise’s enduring popularity since its debut in 2014 (excluding The Continental), no major video game studio has yet produced an authentic game based on the series. There was a strategy game released previously, but it didn’t receive lasting attention and garnered mixed reviews on Steam. Fortunately, a small independent developer proved adept at capturing John Wick’s character in a game, and they truly hit the mark.
Suit up, Wick style
Initially available through Early Access in the year 2021, and finally launching as a full 1.0 version on June 20, 2025, Suit for Hire has been hailed as the top “John Wick simulator” by GameStar’s Philip Elsner. Currently, you can grab it for under $9 on Steam.
In this game, you’ll find yourself in a first-person shooter perspective, but you have the freedom to switch to third-person view whenever you wish. The main objective is completing contracts while exhibiting cool, well-timed combat moves. The gameplay revolves around navigating missions with limited ammunition and earning bonuses for accurate and inventive melee attacks.
This game doesn’t have a complex narrative; instead, it takes you straight into combat. The primary objective is to eliminate waves of adversaries using your preferred method, much like in Hotline Miami and Katana Zero. It shares the same rapid-fire, tactical feel where quick wit and sharp skills are crucial. This straightforward focus might be one reason why the game has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam.
In the game Suit for Hire, you’ll find an exciting blend of fast-paced combos, sneaky backstabs, and clever counterattacks during intense bouts. As you progress, you’ll gain access to a variety of weapons such as pistols, shotguns, rifles, and even special finishers for a cinematic touch. To top it off, there are thrilling moves like pike jumps and slow-motion effects similar to Max Payne, creating a refined, chaotic experience.
What truly stands out is the seamless integration of all these components that create an exhilarating, continuous action journey. The developers at Godmode Interactive had a clear vision for Suit for Hire, took player suggestions into account during Early Access, and provided a fulfilling gameplay experience.
