In mere weeks following the debut of Switch 2, Nintendo plans to unveil its next major title for the console – Donkey Kong Bananza, which is also the first fresh installment in the series since 2014’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Despite the wait, there’s an overwhelming level of anticipation for DK’s return as evidenced by the live-action trailer for Donkey Kong Bananza.
MikeyOrlando6665, a YouTube user, aptly put it: “It’s relieving to learn the trailer didn’t reflect the actual gameplay. I assumed I’d be playing Donkey Kong amidst a boisterous crowd instead of my typical solo experience in my basement, weeping in my underwear.
The video primarily showcases the game’s 3D platforming adventure, but it also includes a side-scrolling segment reminiscent of the original Donkey Kong Country from 1994. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Donkey Kong, has shared his reasons for opting for a modern design in Bananza instead of sticking to the traditional Donkey Kong Country style.
According to TopMob’s hands-on review of Donkey Kong Bananza, they referred to it as the next step in the evolution of concepts introduced in Super Mario Odyssey. They also pointed out that it is brimming with fresh and innovative gameplay mechanics. In anticipation of its launch, previous Donkey Kong games are being offered at a discounted price.
Donkey Kong Bananza will launch on July 17 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
