As an enthusiastic admirer, I found myself in a unique situation when I realized my neighbor in China was stranded on a rooftop during a devastating flood. In a heartbeat, I grabbed my trusty drone and managed to hoist them to safety, demonstrating the remarkable power of technology in times of crisis.
A video showing a man being hoisted aloft by a drone, where he’s clearly hanging quite a distance above the ground before smoothly touching down again, is rapidly spreading across social platforms.
Before this rescue operation, a man found himself stranded inside a dilapidated two-story house, surrounded by floodwaters in Liuzhou, China. As reported by The Telegraph UK, he made desperate calls for help as he was perched on the rooftop, but the rising waters prevented rescuers and boats from reaching him.
One unexpected twist unfolded when a neighbor utilizing a heavy-lifting agricultural drone (capable of carrying up to 100kg) found an unconventional use for it: saving a man’s life.
Man transported to safety with neighbor’s drone amid flood
The drone pilot, Lai Zhongzin, noticed a man in peril as he was located inside a house immersed in water of a greenish-gray hue due to the flood.
In the region of Liuzhou, Guangxi, China, a person stranded by surging floodwaters was rescued and transported to safety by a drone when traditional rescue boats were unable to reach him. This innovative use of technology showcases its potential in emergency situations.

As a devoted onlooker, I shared with CCTV that the water had escalated to an alarming height at that particular moment. Despite my drone’s usual function of transporting construction materials and dispersing fertilizer, I swiftly repurposed it to offer aid by lifting the man off the flooded area.
With a lengthy tether and a sandbag serving as a makeshift chair for balance, this drone managed to lift a man and fly around 65 feet up before smoothly descending onto the street again.
Prior to being hoisted by the drone, Lai instructed the person on the phone to secure his hands and legs with the safety strap and settle down on a sandbag.
In a swift operation that supposedly lasted under two minutes, the rescue mission was completed, thanks to the drone’s agility as it maneuvered skillfully among the trees and power lines in the vicinity.
Lai admitted that his actions were against the law, but he argued that his primary intention was to preserve the man’s life.
In an emergency situation where a house seemed like it might collapse, I used an unmanned drone despite it being against the law because I wanted to help people. However, I strongly advise against anyone else doing the same.
