Nintendo Switch 2 sells 5 million units in first month becoming the fastest-selling console of all time

It’s possible that Nintendo unintentionally disclosed a significant sales achievement for the Nintendo Switch 2 today. In a post detected by Nintendo Soup on Nintendo’s investor relations site (which has since been taken down), the company announced that the new console had reportedly sold 5 million units in just 26 days since its market launch. Given that it was previously reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units worldwide within its first week, this figure seems plausible. To put it simply, if these sales numbers are accurate, the Nintendo Switch 2 would be the fastest-selling console in history to date.

Nintendo Switch 2 sells 5 million units in its first 26 days on the market

In its initial month, the PlayStation 5 managed to sell 3.4 million units, taking another 2.5 months to reach 5 million. On the other hand, the original Nintendo Switch sold 2.74 million in its first month and reached 5 million after 4 months. Remarkably, the sales of the new Nintendo Switch have already surpassed those of its predecessor, as well as the current leading gaming consoles. It’s breaking records left and right, and if this trend continues, it will undoubtedly continue to do so.

According to Nintendo Soup’s findings, we learn about the regions that have purchased the most Nintendo Switch 2s. The Americas lead the pack, contributing approximately 1.8 million units out of the total sold thus far, narrowly surpassing Japan’s sales figure of 1.47 million units. Europe follows in third place with 1.18 million units sold, while the rest of the world makes up the remaining sales.

Video games are turning out to be a costly pastime as we go along, with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 setting its price at 50% higher than its previous version, now retailing at $450. Compared to other consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it still offers a relatively affordable option. However, when you factor in that Mario Kart World became the first game to surpass the $80 price point, the argument for lower costs becomes more persuasive. Furthermore, due to the initial pre-order delay in the US and Canada, the prices of all Nintendo Switch 2 accessories have seen a minimum increase of $5 or $10. Despite these pricing adjustments, it appears that fans are still eagerly anticipating the new console from Nintendo.

New Horizons.

Hopefully, it’s not the case, but it seems unlikely that the Nintendo Switch 2 will enjoy the same surge in late-game sales as its predecessor did. Nevertheless, the original Switch made such a strong impact that many people were eager to buy the new console during its initial month on the market.

This is probably because Nintendo effectively managed to accumulate a large number of consoles. When I went to the midnight launch, there were more than enough consoles on hand for everyone who turned up. All these remaining units sold out within the first week, but they were replenished a few weeks later.

It’s quite possible that sales will dip during the summer months, but once we reach the holiday season, things are expected to pick up again. In fact, Nintendo is gearing up to launch Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a game that is likely to be one of the top sellers for this year, considering the popularity of previous Pokémon releases. Additionally, they’ve got Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the horizon, Donkey Kong: Bananza coming out this month, Kirby Air Riders, and numerous content updates for existing games. All in all, it seems like Nintendo is set for a successful period ahead.
