In a live broadcast of Destiny 2 titled “The Edge of Fate,” scheduled for July 15, Bungie developers shared their plans for allowing players to purposefully disrupt the progression order on the new planet, Kepler. This is done intentionally by the developers.
In simpler terms, the new location for Kepler is likened to the intricate puzzle-filled content from the 2016 game titled Rise of Iron. The narrative in Edge of Fate has been carefully crafted so that players gradually unlock various abilities and their levels, while also discovering new areas of Kepler to explore as they progress through the campaign missions.
In this game, you’ll encounter mysteries to solve, concealed passages to discover, and certain areas that can only be reached by utilizing unique skills, like Matterspark for navigating through vents or secret pathways. During their live stream, Bungie developers emphasized that these design choices encourage players to observe and contemplate the game world from new perspectives.
Once you finish the primary story missions in the campaign, you’ll have the ability to access abilities anywhere, which could potentially allow you to jump ahead or skip certain puzzles and missions. Bungie has stated that this is done deliberately and they are excited to see how players will push the boundaries beyond what their playtesting processes had originally planned.
Robbie Stevens, the assistant game director for Destiny 2, mentioned that they can’t definitively predict where players may deviate from the intended sequence in the game, but this is done intentionally.
It’s intriguing to consider how players will come up with various strategies and exploited game elements (broken builds) now that Bungie has confirmed they are addressing issues in Destiny 2.
In simpler terms, Bungie sets more stringent rules specifically for their raids. Many items and abilities are inaccessible in Contest Mode versions of these raids. During a live broadcast, Bungie revealed the starting date for The Edge of Fate raid race, and provided information about the upcoming Epic raid system, which will be introduced shortly after its release.
