Sentimental Value Finds an Even Worse Person in the World

The highly anticipated film Sentimental Value, from the creators of the beloved 2021 hit The Worst Person in the World, is set to captivate audiences once more. Fans of the former will undoubtedly flock to the cinema, beaming with joy, much like Julie. Similar to its predecessor, Sentimental Value features Renate Reinsve in the lead role, under the direction of Joachim Trier, and boasts a screenplay co-written by Trier and Eskil Vogt. Their previous collaboration brought Reinsve the Best Actress award at Cannes Film Festival 2021 and two Academy Award nominations – one for screenplay, the other for International Feature Film. Joining the cast are Stellan Skarsgård and Elle Fanning. Sentimental Value received widespread acclaim upon its premiere at Cannes 2025, taking home the Grand Prix. Alison Willmore of Vulture praised Reinsve’s performance in the film, stating, “With her extraordinarily open, oval face, Reinsve delivers an astounding portrayal of emotions that Nora scarcely realizes she’s experiencing.” Skarsgård, according to Willmore, is both infuriating, charming, and pitiable as a regret-filled aging artist who remains too obstinate to give in.

Details about the highly awaited film of the year, according to Letterboxd enthusiasts, are provided below.

In the movie under consideration, Stellan Skarsgård portrays Gustav Borg, a film director who seems to be particularly unkind. His character has strained relationships with his two daughters following his decision to leave their family behind. One of these daughters is Nora, a talented stage actress, who turns down a role in Gustav’s latest production and is subsequently replaced by Rachel Kemp, an acclaimed American actress portrayed by Elle Fanning. In the trailer, Nora expresses her reservations about working with him to Rachel, stating “I can’t work with him,” further adding that they have limited communication due to Gustav’s challenging personality.

Who’s in the cast?

Alongside them is Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, a new face, portraying Agnes – Nora’s understanding sister. Additionally, Cory Michael Smith from Saturday Night Live and comedian Catherine Cohen will play characters named Sam and Nicky respectively, whose identities remain undisclosed as of now.
