Over the coming weekend, we’ll be kicking off the traditional week-long speedrunning event, Summer Games Done Quick, which is now synonymous with July! This year promises a multitude of thrilling runs, all for charitable causes. Here’s how to catch the action live, along with some intriguing events from the schedule.
The first weekend in July signals the commencement of Summer Games Done Quick, our annual week-long speedrunning marathon! This year’s event is brimming with exciting runs for charity, and we’ve got all the details on how to watch it live, as well as some must-see events from the schedule.
How to watch Summer Games Done Quick 2025
The gaming event known as SGDQ will take place in Minneapolis and will be broadcast continuously on the Twitch channel of GDQ. You can catch it live at any moment during the marathon, but if you happen to miss something, the runs will be uploaded promptly to the GDQ YouTube channel.
Summer Games Done Quick begins on July 6th at 8:30 AM Pacific Time, 11:30 AM Central Time, or 12:30 PM Eastern Time. The pre-show, which launches the event, explains its purpose, outlines prizes and rewards for viewers, and sets the stage for the gaming marathon that follows.
As a dedicated enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about an extraordinary week-long spectacle that highlights top-tier gaming skills spanning multiple genres. The heart of this event lies in the thrilling pursuit of achieving everything, incredibly fast, during each speedrunning session. This bi-annual gathering not only offers non-stop entertainment but also serves a noble purpose: it generously contributes to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), an organization renowned for delivering medical aid in crisis zones worldwide. To date, the Games Done Quick (GDQ) community has raised over $50 million for MSF and the Prevent Cancer Foundation, with their winter edition of the speedrunning marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick, contributing significantly to these impressive funds.
Summer Games Done Quick schedule highlights
At SGDQ 2025, the action takes place from July 6 to July 13 without any pauses, featuring an action-packed lineup of speedruns one after another, with brief intermissions in between. The event will host both on-site and online speedruns, and classic blocks like horror games, funny games, and Mario games are coming back for more fun.
The complete timetable for Games Done Quick can be found on their official website. We’ve highlighted some events we’re excited about, along with their initial dates and times. Keep in mind that these times may shift due to potential delays or longer-than-expected runs, but the GDQ site will keep you updated in real time. Plus, they provide times according to your local timezone, eliminating the need for any time conversion calculations!
For the first time in a while, Game Day Charity Quake (GDQ) seems to be considering recently released games. These “newly unveiled” titles were just announced. Typically, GDQ required games to have been out for a certain number of months before submissions started, making fresh releases ineligible. However, the appearance of Mario Kart World among these new additions suggests that the criteria for game submission has now become more flexible and inclusive.
