The District of Columbia (DC) has officially announced that four key members of the Batman team will have significant roles in an upcoming Batman movie, set for release in July. While much attention is currently on James Gunn’s DC Universe, particularly with the initial film in the series, Superman, also scheduled for July, a Batman film will broaden the scope of the DC Universe before the Caped Crusader of the DCU even makes his debut.
On the 3rd of July, 2025, the animated movie entitled “Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League” is set to debut on Max. This production is a creation of a Japanese animation studio, providing fans with a fresh perspective on the Dark Knight character. The upcoming film serves as a direct follow-up to “Batman Ninja“, a 2018 anime that introduced the version of Bruce Wayne and his universe we’ve come to know.
In this upcoming movie, it’s no shock that characters related to Batman, known as the Bat-family, will take on significant roles. More precisely, four of these family members will receive special attention as they collaborate with Batman in an attempt to rescue Gotham from the Yakuza League, a group that consists of variations of the Justice League’s members.

Robin
In many DC Comics and adaptations, Robin, Batman’s frequent companion, is often a familiar figure. Given this, it comes as no shock that Robin, in this instance Damian Wayne, Bruce’s biological son, will team up with the Caped Crusader in “Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League“. Although most fans associate Robin with Dick Grayson, here we have a different character being sought by James Gunn. (To learn about the type of Robin he’s looking for, follow this link.)
In the movie “Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League,” Damian’s character will closely resemble his depiction from the original storyline and other adaptations. It is important to mention that Damian is generally perceived as quite aggressive and quick-tempered, which appears to be consistent with his portrayal in the upcoming film.
Robin will be voiced by Yuki Kaji in Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League.
Red Robin
Tim Drake is known as Red Robin in the comic books. Over time, he stepped into the role of Robin following Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Later on, Damian Wayne took over the Robin identity, while Tim adopted the persona of Red Robin.
In the movie “Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League”, the appearance of Red Robin closely resembles his design from the “New 52” series of DC comics, which started in 2011. The character in the film appears to maintain the same personality as in the original source material. Tim Drake, aka Red Robin, is generally regarded as Batman’s most intelligent sidekick among the four, and in this context, he serves as the intellectual mastermind of the group.
Red Robin will be voiced by Kengo Kawanishi in Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League.
Nightwing
In simpler terms, Nightwing is recognized by many as Dick Grayson, the initial Robin. Dick was associated with The Flying Graysons at the circus, which provided him with a foundation in gymnastics that later proved beneficial for his superhero skills. When people hear the name Robin, most fans picture Dick Grayson.
In the forthcoming movie, the character previously known as Robin, Dick Grayson, will now be recognized as Nightwing. While he initially distanced himself from Batman in the original storyline to discover his own identity, he frequently collaborates with him. He also serves as a mentor to Damian, who is significantly younger than Dick. The depiction of Dick Grayson in the film “Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League” deviates slightly from other adaptations; his costume is predominantly black or dark gray instead of the more frequent blue accents found in the source material.
Nightwing will be voiced by Daisuke Ono in Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League.
Red Hood
Initially, Red Hood was a previous hero and the second version of Robin who transitioned into the criminal figure known as Red Hood (his real name is Jason Todd). But in the “New 52” comic series, Red Hood has been portrayed more as an anti-hero who teams up with Batman, functioning as his adopted son.
In the anime “Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League,” Red Hood’s appearance closely resembles his design in the original material and other adaptations. He dons a coat and a full-head red mask. Known for his unpredictability, Red Hood remains true to form in this upcoming film. Yet, fans can rest assured that he will prove to be a formidable adversary to any character he confronts.
Red Hood will be voiced by Akira Ishida.
