Dave Portnoy responds after being confused for man in viral pizza fight

Dave Portnoy, from Barstool Sports, responded to a widely-shared video showing a fight at a pizzeria, as some social media users speculated his participation in the altercation.

For over five years, Dave Portnoy has served as the web’s preferred pizza critic. As the creator of Barstool Sports, he has significantly impacted the success of several pizzerias through his well-known “One Bite” endorsements.

Portnoy frequently posts new reviews daily, and he’s often featured in pizza-related content by other creators.

On June 29th, another heated incident at a pizzeria went viral across social media platforms. The video, first shared on TikTok by Starglizzy93, depicts the shop owner getting into an argument with a disruptive customer over the pizza price. In the video, the pizza maker can be seen tossing a couple of slices towards the customer’s head, who then retaliates by throwing various objects and storming out of the store in anger.

The viral TikTok video (with 5 million views) was shared on other platforms, such as the reformed Twitter. On those sites, users swiftly asserted that it was Dave Portnoy featured in the video. Captions like “Dave Portnoy got booted from another pizza joint” and “Dave Portnoy is losing his cool” were common.

It eventually got onto the Barstool Sports founder’s radar, who responded to his name being used.

That’s a true testament to my influence!” he posted on X. “I’ve turned into a legend, a cautionary tale whispered around campfires. ‘Snitch on your father, and Portnoy will come for you!’

It’s worth mentioning that Portnoy’s reviews often significantly impact the success of certain pizza places, particularly when he awards them a high rating.

We’re not sure yet if he’ll write a review about it, but it’s possible he might satirize the event, which is quite characteristic of Portnoy.
