Pokemon TCG collector with “most complete” collection wants $9 million for 67 cards

A passionate Pokémon Trading Card Game collector, boasting an allegedly comprehensive set of English editions, is asking for a staggering $9 million in exchange for some of the game’s scarcest and most valuable cards.

David Persin, who is widely recognized within the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) community, has put up for sale on eBay a set of 67 unique cards, each one-of-a-kind, with an asking price in the billions.

Each card found in this listing was initially produced exclusively as awards for victors and runner-ups at diverse Pokémon World Championships tournaments spanning the years from 2004 to 2024.

It was through repeatedly buying cardboard trophies from winners at various World Championship events between 2006 and 2019 that Persin eventually became the sole owner of such a large collection, as he detailed in the eBay listing’s description.

Persin’s eBay listing is for 67 one-of-a-kind Pokemon cards.

Why sell now?

At the age of 64, my health isn’t as robust as before, leading me to prioritize my expanding family more. Therefore, I have made the decision to sell for this reason, as explained by Persin.

At this moment, the listing continues to be active, with more than 30 individuals expressing interest by placing the collection in their shopping carts. It’s yet to be determined if any of these potential buyers will ultimately make the $9 million purchase.

For those genuinely curious about purchasing items, Persin makes it clear he’s open to negotiating prices – “Feel free to contact me for my best deal and any queries you might have.” If a transaction occurs, it’s important to note that the buyer will need to arrange travel to Las Vegas to collect the cards since Persin prefers not to ship items of high value due to discomfort.

Given the many instances of Pokémon cards being stolen, sometimes in unusual ways, it’s not at all unexpected that Persin would be hesitant about sending something so valuable.
