Prepare some space, Cloud, Tifa, and Kefka, as Sonic the Hedgehog and his team are speeding towards Magic: The Gathering in an exciting partnership! Unlike the latest Final Fantasy sets, Sonic will have three unique Secret Lair releases instead. Magic refers to these as Secret Lair drops – limited-time offerings featuring a select few cards with exclusive artwork.
The latest drop boasts seven fresh designs that vividly depict beloved characters from Sonic the Hedgehog. Wizards of the Coast have collaborated these new card designs with unique artwork, some of which are created by popular Sonic artists, marking their debut in Magic: The Gathering cards.
The initial release, dubbed Turbo Gear drop, will incorporate several essential items that are commonly used in the widely played Magic: Commander format, such as Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves. This is because Sonic’s famous shoes certainly merit their own cards. Additionally, it will include cards for characters like Sonic, Super State, Shadow, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Amy Rose, and Knuckles.
Moreover, the renowned vehicle known as Weatherlight now appears as Sonic’s Biplane or Tornado. Due to a recent adjustment in the rules, you can choose it to serve as your Commander, should you prefer.
Instead of finding them randomly in packs, Wizards of the Coast will sell all three drops directly on their Secret Lair shop starting from 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT on July 14. The regular cards will be priced at $29.99 each, while the foil editions will cost $39.99.
