Last night during a live broadcast, Capcom shared information about the upcoming title update for Monster Hunter Wilds, which is set to release next week. This update brings back popular monsters from the past, introduces new cosmetic options, adjustments to game balance, and claimed performance enhancements that might determine whether Wilds can regain favor among players whose opinion has dropped significantly in recent times.
Title Update 2 features two familiar monsters from past Monster Hunter games making a comeback: Lagiacrus and Seregios. The water-dwelling, lightning-infused serpent, Lagiacrus, was initially introduced as the main monster for Monster Hunter 3 and has garnered a significant fanbase, however, due to technical difficulties, it hasn’t been included in a primary Monster Hunter game since the release of Generations Ultimate in 2017.
In the showcase, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto noted that Lagiacrus is widely beloved around the globe. There’s been a great deal of anticipation surrounding it.
Originating from Monster Hunter 4, Seregios is a unique creature that can be likened to a hawk-shaped rattlesnake tail, but with a twist – this rattlesnake tail is fashioned out of blades. The lead director of Monster Hunter Wilds, Yuya Tokuda, mentioned that the initial design of Seregios aimed to create an adversary that would move and attack in ways more unpredictable than previous monsters. Unlike their targets typically moving only forwards, backwards, or sideways, this creature can spiral mid-flight and launch diagonal attacks, which was a novelty in the game’s landscape. In its return to Wilds, Tokuda explained that the team focused on reinforcing that original concept.
According to Tokuda, it’s a lively beast that you can have a blast partnering during combat, which he believes is what makes Seregios entertaining.
In the challenging realm of Wilds, both Lagiacrus and Seregios will be found as tough, eight-star tempered monsters. This puts their tempered forms on a level similar to the formidable 8-star Gore Magala, enhancing the thrill for players who seek an increased level of difficulty beyond what Wilds initially provided.
Without a doubt, one of the key improvements is outlined in the comprehensive update 2 patch notes on the official Wilds website. Here, it’s mentioned that there are fixes for Steam-related performance issues, such as adjusting “the amount of video RAM used during texture streaming, leading to a decrease in overall video RAM usage.
Texture streaming problems appear to be one of the primary factors contributing to Wild’s ongoing performance problems, which have only experienced minor enhancements following post-release updates. Some of these improvements can only be noticed if you manually clear the game’s shader cache yourself. If you perform this action on an Nvidia card, remember to revert any settings changed in step 2 back to their original values.
If the texture streaming improvements lead to significant performance enhancements, it could help alleviate the performance issues frequently mentioned in numerous negative Wilds reviews. However, whether the return of two monsters with optional endgame difficulties will be sufficient to satisfy the content-craving critics remains uncertain.
One exciting addition to the mix is the highly anticipated Layered Weapon system, enabling hunters to swap the appearance of any fully upgraded weapon for any weapon of the same type they currently have equipped. So, you can now show off your top-tier Artian weapon without sacrificing style!
This coming summer, I’m pumped about diving into a fresh seasonal extravaganza, complete with vibrant tropical-themed armor and decorative items to collect. Plus, get ready for the arch-tempered version of Uth Duna, as it’s set to appear in an upcoming event quest!
Additionally, during August, there’s a chance to participate in an event quest featuring a Fender guitar gesture. This is in celebration of the Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster collaboration guitar that was released for sale in March. Just thought I’d mention it. It’s available as well.
On Monday, June 30th, you can expect the release of Title Update 2. We’re planning another update, packed with additional features, for a release in late September.
