Today, Red Hook Studios has released a fresh batch of free content for their game Darkest Dungeon II, titled the “Hero Origin Pack,” available exclusively on PC platforms. Additionally, they’ve rolled out an update for their modding tools as well.
The Hero Origin Pack DLC won’t be released on consoles yet; it’s already available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store currently. In addition, the Steam Summer Sale has begun today, and Darkest Dungeon II’s main game is reduced by 50% with a temporary discount also offered for the DLC.
Good news for all the Darkest Dungeon fans! The sequel, Darkest Dungeon II, is now ready to be played on your PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. And Anniversary Edition!

Red Hook Studios is happy to announce that a free DLC is launching for Darkest Dungeon II today!
Players can now obtain, free of charge, the much-anticipated hero origin skins in Darkest Dungeon II, which are visible at the Shrine of Remembrance. This free content is accessible on PC and Mac platforms through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GoG. Later, console users will also have access to these skins. Furthermore, this addition of hero origin skins has paved the way for Red Hook Studios to develop Darkest Dungeon II’s modding tools. As a result, starting today, players can modify characters in the game, including creating custom character skins and weapon kits.
As a dedicated player immersed in the world of the Darkest Dungeon, I’m thrilled to be part of the ongoing Steadfast Steward’s Update. This joint project between Red Hook Studios and our vibrant community is all about enhancing the game experience with quality-of-life improvements such as hero reworks, tooltip tweaks, introducing combat and movement speed settings, and a host of other minor adjustments. Each week, we get to test out new builds and share our thoughts directly with the team via the Darkest Dungeon Discord. It’s an exciting time for us all!
During this year’s Steam Summer Sale, you can grab Darkest Dungeon II at a 50% discount! Not just the main game, but also its DLCs are on sale. The Binding Blade DLC will be 25% off, while Inhuman Bondage is marked down by 20%.
Last May marked two years since Red Hook Studios released the full version of Darkest Dungeon II. In the year that followed, they were thrilled to make the game available on Mac and consoles, incorporate mod support, unveil a fresh game mode called Kingdoms, and debut the Inhuman Bondage DLC. More content and features are yet to come for the game, including the long-awaited third Kingdoms expansion pack, extensive character overhauls, and a spine-chilling physical edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. The Darkest Dungeon II: Anniversary Edition is slated for launch in Q4 of 2025.
