How to fish in Palworld

Tides of Terraria adds new craftable items for fishing, including rods, bait, and fishing ponds.

Using the updated fishing feature, you’ll find yourself able to cast your line in any part of the water that shows signs of fish. Surprisingly, it’s not the fish themselves that you’re capturing, but rather these underwater indicators signify locations where you’ll pull up Pals and other game items.

In this game, you have an opportunity to hook both new and veteran players. To begin, prepare your fishing rod and gather some bait. Once ready, make your way to the water’s edge and cast your line close to a group of fish. When a “fish” bites your bait, a mini-game will ensue. This mini-game resembles the fishing in Stardew Valley, as you will have a meter indicating your success in keeping a green bar aligned with the fish for a successful catch.

Furthermore, you could expand your Pals collection by constructing and locating fishing ponds within your compound. Details regarding the fishing ponds will be discussed later.

How to craft fishing rods

Different fishing rod designs can be constructed at varying skill levels, and we will outline the necessary components for each crafting process.

Beginner Fishing Set

At technology level 15, you can acquire the beginner fishing set for 2 points. This set includes your initial fishing rod and also grants the ability to create basic bait. For further details about different types of bait, see below.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 10 Paldium fragments
  • 3 Pal Fluids
  • 8 Ingots
  • 8 Fiber

Intermediate Fishing Rod (Cattiva)

At tech level 29, you can acquire the Intermediate Fishing Rod. Unlocking it requires 2 points. Sporting a sleek Cattiva design, this rod offers enhanced functionality to facilitate smoother catches.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 30 Paldium fragments
  • 10 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 10 Cement
  • 30 Fiber

Advanced Fishing Rod (Pengullet)

At tech level 45, you can obtain the Enhanced Fishing Pole. To acquire it, you need to spend 3 points. This pole, with its unique Pengullet structure, offers superior functionality that makes catching fish a breeze compared to other poles.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 30 Paldium fragments
  • 20 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 15 Pal Metal Ingots
  • 30 Carbon Fiber

How to craft bait

In the world of Palworld, before you can go fishing, you’ll have to obtain some bait to pair with your fishing pole. You’ll find various kinds of bait available, such as Basic Bait, Premium Bait, Luxury Bait, and Irresistible Bait.

Simple bait

As a budding angler, I’ve just obtained Simple Bait – the fundamental bait option included with my starter Fishing Kit. It’s the essential bait for catching Pals, serving as an ideal introduction to the world of fishing. However, don’t expect it to be overly enticing; Pals might not jump at the chance to bite right away.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 2 Pal Fluids
  • 4 Berries
  • 2 Flour

High Quality Bait

At tech level 22, you can acquire premium attractants for a single point. These attractors effectively draw friends towards you, enhancing their quality to facilitate easier capture.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 3 Pal Fluids
  • 4 Tomatoes
  • 3 Flour

Deluxe Bait

At tech level 38, you can acquire the Premium Lure. Earning this item requires spending 2 points. Not only does it attract Friends, but it also increases the size of the rod bar during the mini-fishing game.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 4 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 4 Onion
  • 3 Carrot
  • 4 Flour

Alluring Bait

At tech level 52, an enticing attraction becomes accessible, which you can unlock using 2 points. This attraction offers several advantages: it attracts friends, enhances the mini-game, and boosts the amount of items collected from rewards. These items encompass both friends (Pals) and salvage goods.

To craft, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 10 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 1 Cavern Mushroom
  • 3 Carrots
  • 5 Flour

Once you’ve unlocked a bait type, it can then be crafted at the High Quality Workbench.

How to use fishing ponds

As an enthusiast, I get excited about the prospect of setting up fishing spots at my base, allowing my companions to enjoy this pastime too! To make it happen, I’ll need to create some bait and delegate a skilled companion for fishing duties. Not all companions may have the knack for fishing, but as you level up, you’ll find a good number of options. Remember to assign someone who is adept with their hands, like Anubis, Lyleen, or Katress, as they possess the necessary handiwork skills.

These ponds offer a chance to catch both new and familiar water-dwelling creatures, along with valuable in-game treasures like gold and gems. You can gather these finds near the icebox shared with your fishing companion.

Fishing pond

The first Fishing Pond is found at technology level 31, and it can be unlocked for 3 points.

To build, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 40 Wood
  • 5 Cement
  • 10 Pal Fluids

Large fishing pond

With a bigger waterbody at your disposal, you’ll have a greater chance of capturing more substantial critters than usual. You can access this feature when your tech level reaches 55, but it will set you back 4 points to activate.

To build, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 60 Wood
  • 20 Stone
  • 10 Plasteel
  • 20 High Quality Pal Oil

How to fish for salvage

Another option is to hitch a ride on water-dwelling companions, called Pals, to gather treasures from the sea. Simply add a water Pal to your team, and ensure you’ve fashioned a saddle for them. Utilize your fishing rod to haul in assorted goods, including Pal Spirits, coinage, and precious gems.

In the ocean, salvage sites are identified by drifting wood and barrels. To explore these areas, you’ll need a fishing rod, but no bait is required. Instead, you should interact with the floating debris to initiate a mini-game. This differs from the usual fishing minigame. In this instance, you will notice a ring that demands you to halt a spinning marker within a highlighted green zone.

In the latest Palworld update, you now have the option to retrieve a fresh type of metal from the ocean, which can be utilized for weapon enhancements.

I, personally, haven’t managed to catch any metal fish so far. It seems like you might benefit from the updated Powerful Fishing Magnet for better results.

Powerful Fishing Magnet

This newly introduced object is often referred to as a potent magnet designed for sophisticated marine recovery tasks. It’s expected to attract and retrieve the latest types of metals, along with other premium items, from the ocean.

The Powerful Fishing Magnet is available at technology level 61, and it costs 3 points to unlock.

To craft, you’ll need the following material:

  • 1 Hexolite
