2 owners of Dbrand’s Killswitch, who have wrapped their Joy-Con 2 controllers in protective covers, have been experiencing an issue where the controllers detach from the console rather easily. Some users suspect that the magnetic connection is weakened by the Killswitch case, but Dbrand is planning to resolve this problem. They are offering a solution for those affected by the “manufacturing tolerance issue” by allowing them to contact the company directly and receive a free set of replacement Joy-Con 2 Grips.
Initially, Dbrand acknowledged a problem in a Reddit post that wasn’t met with much approval, as it admitted that an essential space for resistance between the console and controller was closed off when the Killswitch was installed. The lip on the Killswitch removed the cushion meant to absorb movement between the two devices, which is necessary to establish a pivot point when you detach the Joy-Con 2s. As a result, some users have been complaining that their consoles are separating from the controllers excessively.
According to Dbrand, there might be instances where the Nintendo Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2s may detach from the main console when held in a certain manner. This issue seems to occur randomly, with some users experiencing it while others don’t. The reason behind this inconsistency is due to a tolerance issue in the manufacturing of the retaining lip that holds the Joy-Con Grip onto the Joy-Con. If you’re one of those affected by this manufacturing issue, Dbrand offers replacement Joy-Con grips starting in July. It’s worth noting that an alternative solution to the retaining lip already exists and is available on certain Switch 2 cases. This solution involves using adhesive, but keep in mind that over time or under excessive stress, adhesives may eventually fail.
During our experiments, we successfully duplicated the problem with the Killswitch that numerous Switch 2 users have reported. However, it’s important to note that this was only achievable when the Switch 2 was held at precise angles, and a noticeable amount of pressure needed to be applied to the device itself.
Although some users may encounter issues with the latest version, it’s still worth considering due to the exceptional ergonomic support provided by the Killswitch, which outshines competitors such as Satisfye and JSAUX. The Killswitch is equipped with finger ridges for a snug and comfortable grip, making it a top choice for many users.
For a deeper understanding of the grip’s features, such as its distinctive dock adapter, travel cover (available optionally), and various bundle choices, I recommend you revisit our earlier story on the Killswitch for comprehensive details.
