28 Years Later and its sequel The Bone Temple were shot consecutively, and a potential concept about a fresh kind of infection might significantly impact the forthcoming continuation. (Spoiler alert!)
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have once again teamed up for the long-awaited sequel to “28 Days Later,” set an impressive 28 years following the outbreak of the rage virus in the United Kingdom.
In the latest horror film, a band of survivors has established their own settlement on an island, cut off from the mainland via a bridge. Interestingly, the zombies in this story have advanced.
At one extreme, you find the Slow Lows, who pose minimal danger and are the least aggressive type of infected. Conversely, there are the Alphas, monstrous beings created when the virus behaves like a steroid. However, we might have inadvertently encountered another strain without fully recognizing it.
The baby could spell disaster in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Following Isla assisting an infected individual in delivering a child, it seems likely that this baby was fathered by Samson, the Alpha named so. Spike observes that the newborn appears to be a regular human, with no signs of the virus, suggesting it may have avoided infection while still in the womb.
Instead, let’s consider this scenario: He leaves the girl behind to grow up on his isolated homeland, while he returns to the mainland by himself. But suppose the infant carries the infection, perhaps labeled as a “Carrier” or a “Purebred”? This could have significant implications.
The child didn’t get bit or come into contact with it – instead, she was infected by the virus at birth. Although she may show more human-like traits, her blood could harbor the anger.
According to a Reddit user, it’s quite likely that the situation might evolve similar to a “carrier infection” as seen in the movie “28 Weeks Later.” However, we never truly know for sure.
Her unaware actions might unwittingly render her a possible bioweapon, potentially leading to severe repercussions for the survivors within The Bone Temple.
1. There are two possibilities here. The most reassuring one is that she holds the key to discovering a cure. Alternatively, if we follow the pattern of past horror films in this franchise, the baby might unwittingly trigger an outbreak on the island.
2. We could be looking at two scenarios. The optimistic one suggests that she’s the crucial element for finding a remedy. On the flip side, following the typical plotline of horror movies from this series, the baby may inadvertently ignite an epidemic on the island.
A different observer posed the question, “Is the infant infected with the virus? Might an outbreak within the isolated island community lead them to evacuate to the mainland? Or could the baby be something other than a patient – perhaps a potential cure itself?
A third person chimed in, “What if the baby merely drools and a drop of saliva lands on someone, causing a ‘crow’s-blood-like’ pandemonium to break out on this very island?
As a curious fan, I’ve been pondering this thought: “It just seems strange about the baby… How can two infected parents produce a healthy child genetically speaking?” A fourth voice echoed my thoughts. “The doctor mentioned the placenta, but on a smaller scale, it doesn’t add up.
At present, since the specifics of The Bone Temple storyline remain mostly secret, we can only engage in guesswork. However, it’s been confirmed that Alex Garland wrote the script, while Boyle will act as a producer. Instead, Nia DaCosta is taking on the directorial role.
Apart from that, it is set to premiere on the 6th of January, 2026 in the UK, and on the 26th in the US. This implies we won’t have to wait much longer for its release. In the meantime, delve into the making of the Alpha chase, explore Samson’s heroic past, and uncover a secret about the concluding scene.
