Death Stranding 2 Was Made In Partnership With A Nintendo-Owned Studio

It has been disclosed that Nintendo Pictures, previously recognized as Dynamo Pictures, which specializes in creating computer-generated animations and motion capture for projects, was involved in the production of Sony’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

As a dedicated fan, I couldn’t help but notice the familiar name popping up in the credits of Death Stranding 2. Initially, it might strike you as unusual to see a Nintendo-affiliated entity contributing to a PlayStation title. However, upon reflection, it’s not entirely unforeseen. You see, before Nintendo took over Dynamo and rebranded it as Nintendo Pictures in 2022, this very company was involved in the making of the original Death Stranding.

Starting from 2022, the focus of Nintendo Pictures’ game projects has primarily been on Nintendo games such as Super Mario Bros., Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, it is plausible that the work Nintendo Pictures did on Death Stranding 2 was completed before Nintendo acquired the company, or there might have been a prior agreement in place enabling them to continue working on Death Stranding 2 despite being owned by Nintendo.

It’s also possible that Nintendo Pictures can continue its work in creating animations, given its previous collaboration with Toei Animation on the Pretty Cure anime after Nintendo acquired the company.

On another note, it’s not unprecedented that Sony and Nintendo collaborate, as they are jointly producing the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. To clarify, Sony Pictures and Nintendo are investing in this project together, albeit with a slight postponement in its release schedule.

I’m thrilled about Death Stranding 2, but I have to say, it’s only accessible for those willing to pay more upfront. The standard edition won’t be available until June 26. TopMob’s review of Death Stranding 2 gave it a 7/10, with Diego Nicolás Argüello noting that the game seems focused on rehashing past concepts, which unfortunately prevents it from being a truly exceptional sequel, making it just a good one instead.
