In a fresh twist for Squid Game Season 3, an array of ominous new games is expected, although many details remain secret. However, it’s been confirmed that the iconic Red Light, Green Light game featuring the Jump Rope doll will make its comeback.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the rollercoaster ride that awaits Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the remaining characters in the thrilling third and concluding season of Squid Game.
Among all the preceding games, it’s Glass Bridge that poses the greatest challenge (especially if you’re at the head of the line), Marbles proved to be particularly crushing, and none can compare in terms of iconic status to Red Light, Green Light.
The final scene after the credits of Squid Game Season 2 hinted at the reappearance of the doll, now accompanied by a character named Cheol-su. This sparked a theory that it would involve a twisted retelling of Jack and Jill, but recent news reveals that Season 3’s game will be Jump Rope instead.
Squid Game Season 3 Jump Rope theory
The video preview depicts characters being sent flying off a bridge by a massive skipping rope, while numerous gatherings have provided live-action adaptations of the game. However, others speculate that this won’t be as straightforward; one hypothesis posits it could represent a darker reinterpretation of the Rope to Heaven storyline.
On the subreddit for the Netflix show, someone described that “The Rope to Heaven” is a Korean folktale which delves into the origins of the sun and moon. The narrative centers around two siblings, Dalsun and Haesik, who encounter a fierce tiger that swallowed their mother and later threatened to consume them as well.
In order to avoid danger, the siblings climb a tree, but a tiger starts felling it. With no other options, Dalsun implores for a miraculous rope from above to rescue them. If their spirits are unblemished, the rope’s strength will endure; if not, it shall be feeble.
A robust ladder materializes, enabling them to climb their way towards the skies. In this new role, Haesik is now revered as the Sun Deity, while Dalsun assumes the title of the Moon Goddess, a connection that aligns with the celestial backdrop shared by Young-hee and Cheol-su.
A Reddit user described a concept that resembles a web-like structure in the sky, similar to a rope net they referred to as a “cloud stairway” or “cloud swing”. Some parts of this structure will be strong enough for participants to use as swings while others won’t. Additionally, this idea is reminiscent of illustrations showing characters leaping from dormitory walls.
Jump rope is actually Jump/swing onto different ropes and it still links to the background from the rope to heaven! (There is no spoilers in this post this is all theory and not fact)

They suggested that the dolls could play tricks on players by making them pause at key points on the cloud ladder or rope net, leaving them suspended in mid-air. Additionally, they proposed that the lights might turn off to mimic nighttime, making it more challenging for players to navigate and potentially wasting valuable time for those who are still trying to cross.
In this game, we could introduce the classic stoplight system (Red Light, Green Light) as a timing feature, transforming it into a time-based competition. Typically, a duration of around 15 to 20 minutes would be set for each team to reach their destination or “crossing”.
The Reddit user noted that if their theory is correct, the Doll game could be the last one, following the same order as seen in Season 1, since it shares a significant element of chance, similar to the Glass Bridge.
That sounds quite chilling, doesn’t it? A lot of Squid Game enthusiasts share this sentiment, with one fan putting it eloquently: “A fascinating hypothesis indeed. It would be absolutely petrifying to experience such a game in reality.
The other person found it very intriguing and believed it could be true. They initially disagreed with the monkey bar/rope game theories, but after considering this, they’ve changed their mind.
A third simply wrote, “This show gives me so much anxiety… I love it.”
In just a few years, we’ll discover if this hypothesis holds up, as the third season of Squid Game will be streaming on Netflix starting June 27, 2025.
