New biome progression change

In the initial version (1.0) of 7 Days to Die, you could move freely through all biomes without encountering weather or elemental issues. However, in the updated version (2.0), each biome introduces unique survival challenges. You’ll be required to overcome tasks, create necessary supplies such as consumables and remedies, to protect yourself from damage caused by smoke, heat, cold, and radiation.

In the initial stages, you begin your journey within a forest environment. There are no harmful elemental conditions in this starting zone. However, to explore areas beyond this, you’ll have to conquer a sequence of tasks and earn a badge for each new biome. These badges will equip you with the necessary skills to endure the lethal elements specific to each biome.

It’s clear that you won’t be able to establish a campsite or gather resources beyond the forest unless you first acquire those badges. Therefore, it would be wise for you to prioritize working towards them immediately.

All biomes and effects

  • The Pine Forest: Starting biome with no hazards
  • The Burnt Forest: Combat the hot embers & thick black smoke
  • The Desert: Overcome the extreme heat
  • The Snow: Survive the freezing temperatures and windchill
  • The Wasteland: Conquer the high radiation fallout

The biomes are arranged according to their level of development and degree of difficulty, starting with the Scorched Forest Biome. Obtaining the Scorched Forest Badge grants you permission to traverse the region and initiate the Desert Trials.

This new feature introduces a captivating sense of advancement within the game. However, players have the choice to deactivate the Biome Progression option in both the game and server settings. Disabling this setting will eliminate biome-related dangers and badge prerequisites. By default, it is activated.

How to survive longer in each biome

In each biome, you’ll need to overcome seven survival tasks. But be warned, you’ll sustain elemental harm and won’t last long. For instance, the wasteland could end your life in just a few seconds.

In this version, I aimed to keep the original meaning while making it more conversational and easier to understand.

It’s advisable to try and move near the boundary of the biome whenever you can, so that you can quickly retreat to the forest or other accessible biomes if necessary.

You can gather the mushrooms required for your initial task quickly by searching near the charred forest’s border. I managed to find and pick all my desired mushrooms with minimal time spent in that specific biome. Additionally, I discovered an effective strategy for completing another challenge – luring burned zombies towards the forest edge to eliminate them. However, it is crucial to ensure you are within the burnt forest when actually killing the zombies; otherwise, the kills will not be recognized as valid.

The most impactful way to survive is by crafting the game’s new smoothie drinks.

Craft smoothies

To endure the harsh conditions while earning your biome badge, it’s advisable to make various smoothies for temporary sustenance. In other words, smoothies could be your key to survival during an apocalypse. Keep in mind that each biome has its unique smoothie recipe to cater to specific dietary needs.

Smoothies offer a short-term protective shield against environmental factors, meaning you’ll need to prepare multiple ones for each biome you explore. Fortunately, you can create these smoothies within your inventory without needing a cooking pot. It’s wise to acquire the Master Chef skill, as it reduces the time and resources required to craft them.

Smoothies give temporary protection from environmental hazards in different areas. You’ll need to make several of them for each environment you visit. Luckily, you can prepare these drinks without a cooking pot in your inventory. It’s also beneficial to learn the Master Chef skill, as it speeds up and reduces the resources needed for making smoothies.

In version 2.0, the update increases the worth of gathering mushrooms as they are essential ingredients in many smoothie concoctions. Gather some and consider cultivating your own stock to ensure a consistent supply.
