In the Overwatch 2 Season 17 update, Stadium mode undergoes significant modifications, including the introduction of the innovative Forge system and numerous substantial alterations to various hero abilities.
From the thrill of battlefields transformed into arenas of creativity, Stadium Mode has been an absolute game-changer since its debut in Season 16! It’s like a dream come true for us players, offering a playground where we can construct mind-blowing builds with less concern about maintaining balance. The community has embraced it wholeheartedly – it’s the perfect escape for those seeking a more carefree gaming experience compared to the seriousness of core Overwatch 2.
Right from the get-go, developers assured us that this product would continue to be supported with significant updates over time. The initial installment of these updates arrives with Season 17. Here’s a rundown of all the Stadium modifications included in the June 24 release.

General Updates
- Competitive Ranks have been reset with everyone restarting at Rookie 1.
- Players who reach Epic Rank for the first time in the Tank Role can still earn the Epic Elite Orisa skin.
- Players who reach Epic Rank for the first time in the Damage Role can still earn the Epic Elite Genji skin.
- Players who reach Epic Rank for the first time in the Support Role can still earn the Epic Elite Moira skin.
- Players who reach All-Star Rank will earn the Legendary All-Star Mercy skin and the Legendary All-Star Juno skin.
In our next season, we’re extending the period for players to reach the All-Star rank and obtain the All-Star Juno skin as a reward. Please note that both the All-Star Juno skin and the All-Star Mercy skin will no longer be attainable after Season 17 concludes.
In simpler terms, we’re giving you more time to reach the All-Star rank for a chance to win the All-Star Juno skin this season, but once Season 17 ends, you won’t be able to earn these special skins anymore.

This update, however, is primarily aimed at enhancing her clarity and consistency. Rest assured, we’re diligently monitoring her performance, and we have more tweaks in store to help D.Va stand strong against the relentless competition on Stadium.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the ‘Shout and Chop’ combo on Junker Queen has been incredibly powerful in close-quarter battles, making her a bit overly dependable. This update is an initial step to tone down that effectiveness while keeping the thrilling aggressive gameplay style that makes her so enjoyable to play.

- Get a mini Experimental Barrier that orbits around you. It has 50% reduced health.

- Experimental Barrier has 25% increased Max Health. Barrier health regenerates constantly but 50% slower while deployed.

Revised Comment: In the Fire Strike configuration, we’re transferring power to boost Fire Strike and Magma Strike’s Trail of Lava persistence, while reducing the strong single-target burst that Impact Burst provided. Additionally, some modifications are being made to Reinhardt’s Barrier build to make it a more attractive choice and offer a more seamless skill progression.

In this game, we noticed Zarya was producing an excessive amount of energy in the Stadium level. This was due to her ability to inflict more damage and have a larger Barrier Health. To make her easier to handle, we’re limiting her energy gain here to reduce the maximum potential for energy gain she can achieve. Additionally, we’re reducing effects that prolonged her Barrier duration and replacing them with rewards for strategic Barrier usage instead.

Developer Notes: The Silver Spurs tool has struggled to perform well and frequently failed to harmonize with common strategies. This update enhances its usefulness and unity, making it a more enticing choice that suits a range of playstyles more effectively. B.O.B. Jr., on the other hand, has shown to be an effective utility tool and excels at securing control points while surprising enemies with early ultimate abilities. However, its ability to maintain territory became excessively dependable. In order to balance things out, we’re tweaking its power to bring it in line with other options, while maintaining its strategic importance.

Comment from Developer: Cassidy’s playstyle of rolling into Fan the Hammer was designed primarily as a short-range burst move. However, it often led to punishing enemies who had little time to react from longer ranges. This change aims to bring back its intended focus on close combat situations, allowing its high-risk, high-reward style to thrive without causing frustration when used at a distance.

Game Developer Notes: Freja has been finding it difficult in Stadium due to her adjustments in the main game and subsequent Stadium updates. To help her match up better with other DPS characters in Stadium, we’re boosting her income and enhancing Hunter’s Mark for a more consistent performance when playing catch-up. We’re also toning down the visual distraction of Lille Fælde to minimize frustration related to its power, while increasing its damage to make it a more attractive choice.

Melee builds for character Genji are popular and exciting, but the stealthy backstab build is too reliable and can seem challenging to counterplay. To address this, we’re lowering the maximum damage potential for this build while increasing its survivability. Additionally, we’re enhancing the power of the Ability Power Swift Strike build slightly to make its crucial components feel more significant at the start of a match. In an upcoming update, we plan to introduce more substantial changes to Genji.

This modification aims to make the power more instinctive and impactful for both Mei and her adversaries.

Update on Reaper: The focus of this version is to enhance the dependability of Ability Power Reaper, particularly during early and mid-game rounds. We’re shifting where some of the build’s power is concentrated, while also rectifying some interactions that weren’t functioning optimally. We’ll monitor this build closely as it has a significant snowball effect when it performs well. Additionally, we’re decreasing the strength of Wraith Renewal since it has consistently been a top performer in terms of survivability and income generation.

Frontline – Power

In the main game, enhancements to Lucio’s Crossfade Healing have led us to separate Crowd Pleaser’s healing from Crossfade. This adjustment will make Crowd Pleaser seem more effective when not using Amp It Up, while ensuring that the healing during Amp It Up remains balanced. We are also revising Vivace to serve a more specific purpose and boosting Sonic Boom to offer additional build opportunities.
