Something big is coming to DayZ, update 1.29 might bring the famous map from Arma 2

The creators of DayZ are adhering to their 2025 plan, hinting that a significant development is imminent. We’ve experienced the stability update, some seasonal activities, and the 1.28 update with fresh guns and firearm adjustments. Therefore, it seems that a major overhaul is due, and while many of us are speculating about a new DLC or map, it could potentially be an expansion rather than an entirely new addition to the game.

Countdown to Friday – DayZ’s devs point to a big surprise

Currently, it’s common procedure to hint at something new and let people speculate. Bohemia Interactive recently announced on X that they will be revealing more information this Friday (June 27). Naturally, they kept their announcement somewhat mysterious, accompanying it with a subtle teaser which immediately sparked rumors among the community.

As time slips through the hourglass,

and the desert winds erase the past,

Reborn anew,

Survivors rise where shadows cast!

The key to the official announcement lies with the DayZ community

As a devoted fan, I didn’t take much time to piece together the clues. It seems quite evident to many of us that it’s a nod towards the return of the iconic Takistan from Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, now set to grace the realm of DayZ. For long-term enthusiasts like myself, this is a significant development.

In essence, Takistan stands out as one of the most distinctive settings within the Arma series, drawing significant influence from real-life Central Asian and Middle Eastern landscapes, particularly Afghanistan. The map is characterized by its vast deserts, towering mountains, and sparsely populated rural settlements, offering a captivating environment for both grand conflicts and intense tactical skirmishes. This unique atmosphere resonated deeply with players, leading to its reappearance in Arma 3 through mods and user-generated content. Additionally, there’s a modified version of Takistan accessible for the PC version of DayZ.

If the “Badlands” that Bohemia hinted at turns out to be a revamped version of Takistan, then it could mean a very exciting experience awaits us. Fortunately, we don’t have too long to wait to discover this.
