Jurassic World Evolution 3 Will No Longer Use Generative AI Following Backlash

In response to player criticism, Frontier Developments has decided not to utilize generative AI for creating scientist portraits in Jurassic World Evolution 3 anymore. The decision comes after a disclaimer disclosing the use of AI sparked some controversy among players.

The third installment of Jurassic World Evolution, unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025, is a dinosaur-themed park management video game. Fans were thrilled by the announcement and the game’s trailers amassed over a million views. However, upon checking its Steam page, fans noticed an explanation that artificial intelligence would be employed for scientist portraits in the game. This revelation sparked criticism on the game’s Steam forum, with some players labeling the developers as “lazy” and “pathetic” for opting to use AI instead of hiring artists to design these images.

In response to one of the discussions, Frontier Developments announced they have decided to exclude generative AI from scientist portraits in Jurassic World Evolution 3. They confirmed this decision in a statement to Game Watcher, stating that it was made after receiving some initial feedback. Despite this alteration, the game is still set to be released as planned. The disclaimer about AI has also been removed from its Steam page.

In the realm of video game production, there’s a lot of buzz surrounding the application of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). Companies such as Activision have already employed it, and even developers like Masahiro Sakurai see its potential in game creation. However, players often express disapproval when generative AI is integrated into games, with the recent criticism towards Jurassic World Evolution 3 being a notable instance of this.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 21.
