Build a Rocket Boy studio has confirmed to IGN that they have initiated layoffs, but they haven’t provided details on exactly how many employees will be affected by this decision.

At least 100 people were supposed to leave the team responsible for MindsEye.

The fresh game developed by the collaborator behind GTA garnered attention swiftly, yet not the desired type. To put it simply, the creations of Build a Rocket Boy studio are frequently compared less to Rockstar Games’ titles, but rather to colossal games like The Day Before.

Initially, making corrections was crucial, but they didn’t manage to enhance the reputation of MindsEye. Moreover, while the game doesn’t boast a massive following on Steam, its availability on PS5 and XSX/S suggests that its popularity may be underestimated there too; however, it doesn’t appear to instill much hope for increased success.

It seems unlikely that news about potential layoffs at Build a Rocket Boy, as reported by IGN, will boost the mood of players. The editorial team couldn’t obtain exact figures, but one unidentified employee from a UK studio hinted at a 45-day consultation period for those who might be facing job losses.

According to information from the UK government’s official site, there’s a required lengthy “waiting period” when terminating 100 or more employees. This is the least amount of time set by authorities, so it doesn’t necessarily mean that exactly 100 people will be let go at Build a Rocket Boy.

Despite lacking a precise figure, it’s challenging to view a team reduction a week post-release as positive news for the studio. This is particularly discouraging for those who were rooting for the success of MindsEye, given that it has only attracted a small number of players (and not even all of them at that).
