Mang0 issues emotional apology after being dropped by Cloud9 over Ludwig stream controversy

Renowned Super Smash Bros. competitor Joseph ‘Mang0’ Marquez spoke up post-departure from Cloud9, following his dismissal from Ludwig’s Super Beerio Kart event due to intoxicated misconduct and harassment allegations.

Trouble arose due to Mang0’s actions at Ludwig’s Super Beerio Kart event, where he was caught being disrespectful towards several streamers and appearing drunk in public.

Following an early elimination, his behavior became aggressive: he made suggestive movements toward Maya’s head, invaded the personal space of creators such as Cinna, ExtraEmily, and Ludwig, and even simulated mounting a cardboard cutout of himself during the live stream. This caused several attendees to display signs of discomfort.

Mang0 responds to Cloud9 statement

As a gamer, I posted: “Dropped from C9, looking at a potential ban from tournaments. Man, this is terrible news. I alone am responsible for my current state, but never did I think I’d hit rock bottom… I had it all and threw it away.

It seems like C9 is letting me go, which might lead to a ban from tournaments. I’m really disappointed about this situation. I didn’t think I would end up here, and it’s all my fault. I won’t be around for a while, and I apologize to everyone. I wish I was better, but unfortunately, I messed things up badly.

In a publicly-released announcement, Cloud9 stated that they had conducted an internal review and decided to part ways with player mang0. His conduct, regardless of his time with the team or achievements, was found to be completely inappropriate and goes against the fundamental principles that Cloud9 upholds.

The organization stated that they strictly prohibit any form of harassment or inappropriate behavior, and underscored their dedication to cultivating a respectful and secure atmosphere.

Additionally, Ludwig enforced a ban on Mang0’s participation in any future events, emphasizing that none of the guests should put the comfort and security of others at risk.

In his own words, Mang0 acknowledged that alcohol has often been the source of many past troubles, and he pledged to stop consuming alcohol right away. He expressed, “Ninety-nine percent of my problems trace back to drinking.” He went on to say that while it might seem like an attempt to clear his name, his feelings about the matter are genuine and sincere. He added, “I will strive to make amends for my actions over time.

Previously crowned Melee champion Mang0 has been a valued member of Cloud9 since 2014, being one of their longest-serving players. Now that his departure has been officially announced, there’s mounting pressure on tournament organizers to take additional steps. As a result, the competitive Smash landscape for Mang0 remains uncertain.

“Probably won’t hear from me for a while,” he said. “I’m sorry everyone. Wish I was better.”
