The creators of Splitgate 2 have announced job cuts following the launch of their complete, multiplayer shooting game.
1047 Games’ first-person shooter game didn’t exactly set the record straight upon launch. Despite attracting around 26,000 peak users on Steam for a free-to-play title, it fell short of challenging the reigning multiplayer titans or breaking into the top 100 most played games on Valve’s platform. The game received generally favorable, though not overwhelming, feedback from players, with the controversial conduct of one developer during the Summer Game Fest 2025 opening ceremony being a contributing factor to mixed reviews.
Nevertheless, one might contend that at that point in time, it was premature to foretell whether Splitgate 2 would be a hit or miss. However, what transpires when the studio finds itself compelled to let go of certain staff members?
1047 Games announced on LinkedIn (through Gamesindustry.biz) that they have separated with a few key team members who have significantly contributed to their success. The exact number of employees was not disclosed, but the company is committed to helping those affected find new job opportunities. Additionally, co-founders Ian Prolux (from SGF and known as “the cap”) and Nicholas Bagian have chosen to forgo their salaries.
The developer is gearing up for the rollout of the upcoming stage in the project, with a focus on the ongoing growth and improvement of Splitgate Phase 2. However, it’s important to clarify that while some online users jokingly comment that the team advocating for “making FPS [First-Person Shooter] games great again” are actually reducing their workforce, this occurs a week post the release of the complete game version, rather than being indicative of the overall project direction.
Indeed, it’s true that several well-known games have faced rough beginnings and required dedication from the creators to regain their momentum, with No Man’s Sky serving as a prime example. However, at this moment, SplitGate 2 is yet to signal a triumphant or impressive resurgence. Here’s hoping that 1047 Games manages to emulate the success story of Hello Games rather than the struggles faced by Firewalk Studios.
