Florida man arrested after breaking into restaurant to charge Tesla

A man from Florida was apprehended following a peculiar incident involving a burglary, during which it is claimed that he deliberately drove his Tesla into a restaurant in an attempt to recharge the vehicle.

On June 19th, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced that Evan Scott Bobal, aged 23 from Palm Beach County, was taken into custody. This arrest followed several weeks after allegations of a break-in at Harry and the Natives, located in Hobe Sound.

On the morning of May 26th, security camera recordings depicted an individual rearranging outdoor chairs and tables within the eatery, disconnecting a soda machine, and trying to pull in an electric vehicle (EV) charger to tap into an electrical outlet.

According to owner Harry MacArthur, he first removed the power from the soda dispenser before attempting to maneuver inside. However, upon doing so, he accidentally struck a post as well as the planter located above.

Florida man mocked for allegedly forgetting Tesla charger at crime scene

As Bobal hurriedly departed, he committed an oversight – he forgot his Tesla charging cable. Consequently, the restaurant’s Facebook page took a jab at the suspect, humorously referring to his abandoned charger as transforming their patio into an impromptu charging station.

Appreciate your efforts in repositioning our patio furniture, cleverly using your vehicle as a spacer between the tiki hut supports, and turning off our fridge too. Quite daring of you – even on a day we’re usually closed, but it seems we’ve got quite the vigilant team!” (They joked)

Hey there! I’ve got quite an interesting find for you. Seems like you forgot your Tesla charger here during our last gaming session. We really appreciate the thought, but unfortunately, we don’t own a Tesla. So, if you wouldn’t mind swinging by to grab it, you can pick it up at the Martin County Sheriff’s Department. They’d be more than happy to have a chat with you – and not just about catching up, but also about issues like trespassing and property damage, which seem to have come up recently. Hope to see you soon!

Investigators tracked down the serial number to find it belonged to his car. Law enforcement officials then obtained a search warrant and carried out the search at his home, resulting in his arrest for burglary and attempted robbery.

His bond is set at $12,500.

Instead of burglarizing a business for electric car charging next time, perhaps Bobal could opt for reserving one of Elon Musk’s innovative self-driving ‘Robotaxis’ in the future.
