Co-Op Climbing Game Peak Has Exploded On Steam With Huge Player Numbers

The cooperative climbing game developed by Landfall, titled Peak, saw extraordinary success last week. In just six days, it sold more than a million copies on Steam, shockingly outperforming expectations. On Sunday, the number of concurrent players peaked at an astounding 102,000, surpassing even the recent blockbusters Rematch and Dune: Awakening in popularity.

The gameplay of Peaks appears straightforward, yet it’s not quite like Ice Climbers. Gamers have the option to venture out alone or team up for joint expeditions, as they strive to depart a puzzling island by scaling the summit of the tallest mountain. However, the center of this mountain varies with each playthrough.

As you traverse through the journey, you can assist one another in ascending cliffs, or lay down ropes and spikes to facilitate the path for those following. Your route is segmented into four distinct ecosystems, each harboring lethal challenges on your way to the mountain’s summit. While scaling remains a crucial aspect, it’s not the only task at hand: Foraging edible but questionable sustenance becomes essential for survival, and tending to injuries is vital since they reduce your overall endurance, making the climb increasingly tougher.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed some significant updates in the game recently. They’ve tackled some major bugs, one of which was the tropical region crashing on AMD hardware – turns out it was all due to the lush grass textures. For now, the grass has been temporarily removed from the game, but there are plans to bring it back later. Additionally, they’ve tweaked the “Lobby Mode”. Now, you can set it to “Invite Only”, which means only those who receive an invite will be able to join my game.
