It appears that buildcrafting will play a significant role in Borderlands 4, as Gearbox suggests that the game will feature more skills per character than the combined total from the previous two main games. During the Borderlands Fan Fest, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and chief creative officer Randy Varnell shared additional details about the game following the release of a new story trailer highlighting the mysterious Timekeeper villain.
In the game, each character offers a greater variety of skills compared to the combined total found in both Borderlands 3 and 2. This results in an impressive level of detail and complexity for each character, according to Pitchford. He also mentioned that they are putting in extra hours on Fridays to ensure the best possible experience for players.
In Varnell’s view, the diverse nature of the skill trees allows players to use the same character and combat skill in a fight but assume different roles during a firefight. This is quite unlike Borderlands 3 where action skills were primarily associated with specific playstyles, leaving little scope for creative adaptability.
Regarding the overall layout, players might encounter an intricate system for mastering multiple abilities for each character. To illustrate, Borderlands 2 provided up to ten skills per skill tree for every character, whereas Borderlands 3 offers four distinct skill trees with up to twenty skills at various levels. Many of these skills are geared towards boosting characters when specific actions occur, such as shortening cooldown times, quick healing, and enhanced action skills according to the selected build.
The action-packed game “Borderlands 4” will be available to play starting September 12 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The regular edition of this game costs $70. A future release for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also planned.
In the TopMob’s Borderlands 4 preview, Jordan Ramée expressed that the game feels quintessentially like a Borderlands title. He noted that while there are enough alterations to make it seem like an advancement over Borderlands 3, these changes aren’t so extensive that he anticipates massive, transformative shifts will occur.
