Star Wars’ 4th Villain Show Is Coming!

As a devoted Star Wars enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement as Lucasfilm prepares to unveil its fourth villain-centric series on Disney+ next year. While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the recent focus on our galaxy’s noble heroes through shows like Andor, The Mandalorian, and Skeleton Crew, there’s a certain twisted satisfaction that comes from diving headfirst into the dark side every now and then. Fortunately, Star Wars fans have been spoiled with numerous chances to explore these sinister delights over the past couple of years.

A fourth Disney+ Star Wars series centered around a villain has been officially announced, set to premiere next year. This new animated series, titled Maul: Shadow Lord, is brought to you by Lucasfilm Animation, the team behind Clone Wars and Bad Batch. In this series, we’ll delve into the post-Republic adventures of the renowned villain from the Prequel Era.

At Star Wars Celebration in April, details were first officially unveiled for the new series, highlighting a villain-focused storyline centered around the famous adversary from “Star Wars: Episode I”. (For more on the major announcements at Star Wars Celebration, click here.)

Information on the specifics of the animated series is sparse so far; yet, some interesting tidbits about the production have been shared by Sam Witwer, who voices Maul, in his latest interviews.

In a May 2025 episode of “The Sackhoff Show”, the long-time voice actor of the villain revealed that the upcoming series will center around Maul, as he confronts the reality of the Empire, which he once belonged to, as it finally materializes.

In the aftermath of Order 66, the much-loved antagonist will inquire, “Has it improved?”, as the narrative delves into events similar to those that might unfold if one were to say, “I am the Joker and Batman is gone.

In 2026, the upcoming Disney+ series titled “Maul: Shadow Lord” is set to premiere as part of the expanding roster of Star Wars streaming shows focusing on villains. This new production will bring back voice actor Sam Witwer, who will once again breathe life into the cunning Dathomirian character. The storyline continues where fans last saw him in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars“.

Every Star Wars Villain-Centered Disney+ Series to Date

The Book of Boba Fett

As a devoted movie buff, I was utterly captivated when “The Book of Boba Fett,” debuted on Disney+ in December 2021. For the very first time, it delved deep into the iconic character played by Temuera Morrison – the Mandalorian himself.

The streaming series, nestled between Seasons 2 and 3 of “The Mandalorian”, delved into two simultaneous storylines, chronicling Boba Fett’s adventures post-emergence from the Sarlacc Pit as depicted in “Episode VI”, and his quest for power to assume the role of daimyo (local ruler) on Tatooine.

Tales of the Empire

Originally centered around the Jedi, the Tales of… series has decided to shift its attention for its 2024 premiere, instead exploring the dark side of things with Tales of the Empire.

This six-piece collection primarily focuses on two key figures of the Star Wars galaxy’s main antagonistic force: Bariss Offee, a former Jedi who betrayed Ahsoka in the Clone Wars series, and Morgan Elsbeth, a powerful Force-user from the live-action Ahsoka series who collaborates with the formidable Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Tales of the Underworld

In May 2025, the “Tales of…” franchise once more ventured into uncharted territory, launching a villain-focused series of animated anthology tales entitled “Tales from the Underworld.” This captivating new series debuted on Disney+ on May 4, 2025, earning widespread praise for its intriguing narratives centered around some of Star Wars’ most notorious outlaws.

The show primarily focused on two famous antagonists from the franchise: Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. It chronicled the journey of one character who was trying to find a Jedi-saving path after Order 66, while the other was climbing up the ranks as one of the galaxy’s most notorious outlaws.

BONUS: The Acolyte

Although primarily not centered on villains, “The Acolyte” could still be included in this list due to its partial focus on one of the twin sisters, who was formerly a Jedi but has since turned to the dark side. This series, part of The High Republic streaming collection, is set around 100 years before “Star Wars: Episode I.

The Acolyte explores the darker aspects of The Force, much more so than most other Star Wars series on Disney+ currently. Therefore, it could also be categorized as a show that primarily focuses on villains, similar to other very sinister Star Wars productions.
