According to the developer Funcom, Dune: Awakening is set to get regular updates, with significant ones scheduled for release approximately every 3-4 months.
During a Reddit AMA session, Funcom shared its plans for the future development of its widely-played survival MMO game, based on Frank Herbert’s science fiction universe. In this discussion, Executive Producer Scott Junior emphasized that each significant update would be provided free and will incorporate fresh storylines and PvE content. Interestingly, these updates are scheduled to come out concurrently with the game’s paid DLCs. These DLCs can either be purchased individually or as part of the game’s season pass.
In addition, Junior also hinted at upcoming PvE maps for Dune: Awakening that players can venture into. It remains undecided whether these maps will be offered as part of a significant free update or if they’ll be a paid expansion.
For the near term, Junior mentioned a forthcoming update in early July, jam-packed with numerous enhancements aimed at improving user experience. He didn’t provide specifics about these improvements, but assured us that detailed information will be available once the update is close to being tested and ready for release.
During their AMA session, Funcom delved into various subjects, including discussions about enabling players to name storage containers and vehicles, as well as contemplating adjustments to Dune: Awakening’s PvP-oriented endgame, particularly the Deep Desert zone where gameplay often revolves around vehicle combat. Many players have expressed concerns over the excessive use of vehicles in this zone, with PvP encounters predominantly taking place between flying Ornithopters rather than ground-based melee or firearm exchanges. When asked about the possibility of a Deep Desert zone restricted to ground vehicles, creative director Joel Bylos dismissed the idea but hinted at planned modifications.
Bylos expressed that the present mix of vehicle and pedestrian traffic doesn’t quite suit us, and there are several adjustments planned to rectify this situation.
In the forthcoming updates for Dune: Awakening, players may anticipate some exciting new features such as the ability to challenge other players to duels, a feature allowing you to store all your water in one go, modifications to the endgame Player versus Environment (PvE) Landsraad system, more contracts to fulfill, and the introduction of a third faction. This third faction, according to Funcom, will significantly alter the current dynamics within the Landsraad, as stated by Bylos.
1) The multiplayer game “Dune: Awakening” is experiencing significant popularity on Steam, boasting over 140,000 simultaneous players. A recent update aimed to rectify endgame Player vs Player (PvP) issues by eliminating vehicle damage when colliding with other players and extending respawn timers in PvP zones. However, the console launch for “Dune: Awakening” is set for 2026.
