In the coming Battlefield game, EA is planning to introduce a fresh battle royale mode. Here’s what we’ve learned so far based on leaked information.
Firestorm represented Battlefield’s final effort at creating a battle royale game, debuting as a mode within Battlefield V in March 2019. Although it was well-received initially, it faced stiff competition from free-to-play games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends, which prevented it from gaining widespread popularity or sustaining a loyal player base.
Subsequently, Battlefield 2042 ventured into the extraction shooter category via Hazard Zone, yet failed to attract players, leading DICE to cease its support following a brief period.
Currently, due to the Battlefield Labs playtesting and leaks from insiders, a multitude of details concerning the upcoming battle royale mode that will be released together with ‘Battlefield 6’ have been disclosed.
Battlefield battle royale leaks
Although players can’t play the “Battle Royale” mode during the Battlefield Labs test, a dataminer known as ‘temporyal’ has discovered various details hidden within the game files.
Keep in mind that these leaks originate from the early, unfinished version (pre-alpha) of the game’s files. Some of these characteristics might undergo alterations or may not make it to the final product as they progress through the development phase.
BF Labs Datamining: The Battle Royale mode (new features & additional details)
byu/temporyal inBattlefield
This includes a description:
Enter a dangerous battlefield, get ready for possible enemy encounters. Gather weapons, devices, and strategic support resources. Finish tasks, obtain critical information, unique weapons, and remain one step ahead of the advancing NXC fireline. Survive until the end to emerge victorious.
You might already notice some similarities to Warzone there.
Missions
Missions appear to be Battlefield’s answer to Warzone’s contracts, but there are some differences.
Here, you’re given an opportunity to select a mission marked on the map, which could potentially grant you various prizes such as combat vehicle access passes, unique weapon drops, and other exciting items.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed something unique about this game – other players can thwart my strategy. In simpler terms, if an opposing team begins a mission close by, they might get the opportunity to interfere with my operation and snatch their own rewards instead.
Here’s what might pop up:
- Watch out! Another Team is countering your squad’s Marked Mission. They will try to eliminate [Marked PlayerName]
- Watch out! Another Team is countering your squad’s High Value Assets Mission. They will try to calibrate your beacons
- Watch out! Another Team is countering your Demolition Crew Mission. They will try to stop you or defuse the bomb
Custom Weapon Drops
Similar to Warzone’s Loadout Drops, Battlefield’s battle royale has “Custom Weapon Drops.”
These items, either scattered across the map or awarded as exceptional rewards upon mission completion, are referred to as “airdropped supply packs.” They hold your uniquely tailored weaponry.
Since you can hold just one weapon at a time, you’ll have to locate another one if you want to add another custom weapon to your arsenal.

Field Upgrades
In Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode, Field Upgrades operate much like they did in Battlefield 4. These upgrades can be accessed by accomplishing tasks such as completing missions, scoring kills, gathering equipment, and discovering intel drives.
Respawning
In many modern battle royale games, dying doesn’t always result in elimination from the game.
Or, In contemporary battle royale style games, death doesn’t usually signify the end of your participation.
If you perish early during the game, you’ll be given a single complimentary respawn opportunity. But if you’ve already used that free respawn or we reach a later stage of the game, your team can bring you back via a Redeployment Point.
These items can also be described as “scarce treasures” or “rewards for finishing tasks.” If an enemy team has triggered one to retrieve a member, you can challenge it to halt its activation process.
Oversight System
Rather than just watching as a spectator once you’ve passed, you have the ability to manipulate distant cameras, drones, or turrets using the Oversight System instead.
In simpler terms, only deceased players can operate cameras, whereas for you to control a drone or turret, one of your teammates must first activate the Oversight Terminal.
Looting
You can loot chests, vehicles, and dead players for weapons, equipment, and armor.
As a dedicated fan, let me share some exciting details about the game I’m playing. There are Class Chests that are packed with gear customized for your preferred class, and Rare Chests that hold top-tier weapons, tactical calls, and XSAPI armor carriers. These armor carriers effectively double your carrying capacity for armor, much like an Armor Satchel from Warzone does.
1. You should be cautious about triggering alarms when looting cars.
2. Picking up enemy ammunition and armor plates is as easy as walking over their bodies. (Note: This implies that there’s no need for a specific action, just walking over them will do.)
Closing Ring
As an avid gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the iconic “Closing Ring of Fire” from Firestorm is back, but with a new name: the “NXC Flamefront.” This epic spectacle awaits players in Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode. Can’t wait to jump into the action!
According to the game, a ring of burning NXC is never stable; it’s always on the verge of collapsing until it disappears completely. Any object that comes into contact with NXC is instantly destroyed. Be mindful of this ring; if you get too close, you’ll also start to burn.
Destruction
In the Battle Royale mode, you can anticipate Battlefield’s trademark destructible environments, as suggested by the hint: “Use strategic destruction to outwit your rivals. Every edge matters.
We’re uncertain about the extent of damage these structures can sustain. They might develop large holes in the walls, or even collapse entirely.
Is the Battlefield battle royale free-to-play?
Based on information from Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, who has accurately leaked several details about it, it appears that the battle royale mode in Battlefield 6 will be available for free.
According to an article published in February 2024, Henderson stated that Battle Royale by BF is intended to be free to play and modeled after the popular strategy of Call of Duty: Warzone. This means that the free version will be linked to its paid version.
Developer
According to the latest report from Insider Gaming, Ripple Effect is now working on integrating a battle royale mode into the popular game Battlefield.
Originally known as DICE LA, Ripple Effect has served as a developmental studio for games like Battlefield 4, and they were responsible for creating the Portal mode featured in Battlefield 2042, which is slated to return in Battlefield 6.
It’s commonly known that Byron Beede, a past executive from Call of Duty, is believed to be the originator, as he played significant roles in the launchings of Warzone and CoD Mobile.
Concept art
In their recent discovery, Temporyal unveiled three fresh concept arts hailing from BF Labs. These captivating visuals depict scenarios where players are seen parachuting onto the game map, a squad executing a raid on a structure, and players scavenging a cache of loot.
Three fresh artworks showcased for the Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale mode depict scenes post a catastrophic explosion at Fort Lyndon and its surrounding coastal town. The revised description hints: “Following a colossal fire that obliterates Fort Lyndon and its adjacent beach community, evacuation is enforced due to the risk of poisonous contamination.

Keep in note that the information being discussed pertains to a preliminary version of BF Labs’ client. As such, we’re referring to work-in-progress material, which is signified by the PH or placeholder markings.
The exact arrival date for the game remains uncertain, but it’s expected to come before April 2026. A reveal is scheduled for summer 2025. As it might be another year where Battlefield competes with Call of Duty, you may also want to explore details about Black Ops 7 in the meantime.
