Thanks To Borderlands 4 Fans, This Handy Feature Has Been Added To The Game

After several previews for Borderlands 4, Gearbox’s leader Randy Pitchford has verified that one popular fan feature will indeed be incorporated when the game debuts in September. Contrary to expectations, a mini-map won’t appear in this looter-shooter, but instead, a radar system will, significantly enhancing the ability to navigate and understand battlefield situations.

Through a series of discussions, Pitchford shared that there had been numerous requests from fans for this specific feature in the game. People from various European, American, and Asian preview tours had been advocating for it, according to him. Fortunately, the team at Gearbox was able to implement this request.

In my role as head of development, Steve Jones along with a few other team members, were collaborating with producers to determine if we could implement these new features on schedule for shipping. Then, something remarkable occurred, Pitchford shared. Emulating our traditional Gearbox approach, where the phrase ‘they who builds it, wins’ holds true, some developers managed to carve out spare time in their schedules. True to form, some Gearbox champions stepped up and delivered as only they can!

A group of workers from Gearbox Studios decided to focus on implementing the radar feature, as confirmed by Pitchford. They successfully incorporated it into the game before it goes through quality assurance testing prior to release. When the game launches, the radar will be deactivated by default. Unfortunately, the radar won’t be included in the current Borderlands 4 build at this weekend’s Borderlands Fan Fest event. Here is a demonstration of how it works:

In the launch of Borderlands 4, some long-awaited fan features will be included as well. The initial price of this game is set at $70. According to Jordan Ramée’s review for TopMob’s Borderlands 4 preview, it embodies the essence of a classic Borderlands game while offering enough updates to make it seem like an enhancement compared to Borderlands 3. However, he doesn’t anticipate drastic or significant changes in this sequel.

On September 12, Borderlands 4 will be available for play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A version for Switch 2 is scheduled to release at a future time.
