BTS finally reunited as Suga is discharged from mandatory military service

The entire group of seven, known as the K-pop sensation BTS, are now back together again, following the official release of Suga from his compulsory military service in South Korea.

Big Hit Music, the management company for BTS, announced that Suga fulfilled his alternate military service obligations on Wednesday by utilizing any remaining leave he had. On June 18, the agency cautioned against holding any special events due to concerns about overpopulation.

There are no scheduled special events for the day Suga is released from the hospital. To prevent overcrowding which may cause safety issues, we politely ask that our fans refrain from visiting the sites personally. Instead, please send your heartfelt wishes and encouragement internally.

We’re continually thankful for your undying affection and backing towards Suga. Rest assured, we’ll consistently strive to provide the best support to our artists.

During the time that six members of BTS completed their obligatory military service for South Korea, Suga opted to work as a social service agent instead, which is an alternative to military service. It’s said that he made this choice because of an earlier shoulder injury that he sustained prior to his enlistment.

Last year saw the discharge of Suga’s fellow group members Jin and J-Hope, while RM, V, Jimin, Jungkook completed their service duties on June 10-11. Though BTS hasn’t shared any reunion plans as of now, fans can look forward to the day when all seven bandmates reunite again.

What is South Korea’s mandatory military service

In South Korea, it’s mandatory for men aged 18 to 28, who are physically fit, to serve in the military for a period of 18 to 21 months. However, individuals who are unable to carry out military duties due to illness, mental or physical disabilities are exempt from this requirement.

The law offers unique exceptions for athletes, classical musicians, and ballet artists who secure the top spot in international contests.

Professional League of Legends player Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who is renowned for his skills, was granted an exemption from military service when his team clinched a gold medal at the Asian Games. Unlike Faker, K-pop idols are not exempted under such circumstances.
