Hello! Here’s some positive news: Fortunately, Peyton Buckley didn’t suffer the horrific fate of being burned alive outside her home, as we all feared could have happened given the high level of violence typical of The Waterfront. Instead, the two men who visited Cane’s house intended to frighten Peyton, and they halted the spreading fire right before it reached her and just after it triggered a new wave of terror for me. This attack was undoubtedly a warning. A very clear one. And Harlan is fully aware of who orchestrated it.
It’s clear that Sheriff Clyde Proctor shows no signs of being anything but arrogant and overbearing. Harlan confronts him at the police station regarding the incident where his daughter-in-law was almost harmed, and instead of showing remorse, Clyde subtly tries to shift blame by suggesting Harlan should reconsider his stance on the issue involving Grady. This drug partnership that Clyde is so determined to control leads him to boldly approach Belle at the Buckley’s restaurant for a private meeting. Once again, his intentions are clear: if Harlan continues to resist, members of Belle’s family will face harm.
As a film enthusiast, let me rephrase it: I’ve made it clear that Clyde can be a real pain, but he’s the serious type, and it seems like Harlan might view this job as a permanent position, a chance to return to old times. However, Belle (and Cane) sees it differently – they view it as a means to an end, not wanting to engage in a power struggle with the sheriff. They don’t see the need to pick fights with someone powerful when all they need is some cash.
Is this belief that the job could be temporary naive? Perhaps! But for now, the crucial point is that Belle isn’t willing to risk any of her family members to prove her power in this situation. She wants Harlan on her side. She wants him to mend fences with Clyde Proctor. He’s not fond of the idea at all.
It seems that, after dealing with Harlan and his unjust preference for a man who could potentially harm her family, Belle’s patience finally snaps. This woman has tolerated him sleeping with women like Rhonda, shown extraordinary kindness to one of Harlan’s children, Shawn, and even shared pictures of Shawn’s mother with Harlan. She stands by Shawn, telling him he is innocent, providing support, yet she isn’t a saint herself. Her tolerance has exceeded its limit, and this moment marks that boundary. As a result, Belle reaches out to Wes, the silver fox real estate developer, seeking comfort. Although it appears she quickly regrets her decision, looking uncomfortable with Wes after their encounter in the hotel room, she deserves some happiness and relaxation.
She truly merits this situation improvement as it’s evident that the Buckleys’ circumstances will only deteriorate further. I can confirm this based on Harlan’s actions, such as gathering the men who assaulted Peyton and keeping them at the back of the fish house so Cane can attack them with a tire iron. However, Cane resists this action because he strives to avoid following in his father’s footsteps. It’s astonishing that Cane maintains any moral compass given that his father encourages him to physically harm these men, which is an unusual approach to parenting. Yet, Harlan is known for his unconventional methods.
In simpler terms, Cane retreats from the current predicament, edging closer to a total breakdown. Clearly, he’s under a lot of stress! When he’s on the brink of a panic attack, who does he run to? Not his wife, who was brutally attacked the previous night and is putting up a brave front, despite the lingering smell of gasoline in her hair and the casual handling of a gun in her living room (indicating she’s far from okay). Instead, Cane seeks out Jenna at the hardware store. They both acknowledge that their dinner didn’t go well – “no, [Peyton] fully supports my use of recreational drugs with old flames” – but they also realize they need a friend right now, and who better than each other since they’re the best friends they’ve got. They spend the afternoon drinking and talking, and Cane opens up quite a bit; he doesn’t reveal all his problems, but when he mentions that bad decisions are wrecking every aspect of his life except for Jenna, his “one sweet escape,” it’s both touching and sad when you disregard the drug trafficking and people getting shot in the face and doused in gasoline.
At last, Cane makes his way back home, a relief for both of them as his wife clarifies that yes, indeed, she yearned for him to be with her; she craved his presence. He acknowledges his desire to improve and become more open. After all this time, she breaks down in his embrace at last.
Introduce cane to the list of Buckleys who are yet to understand that things will become significantly worse than they currently are. Fortunately or unfortunately, this realization seems imminent due to Harlan’s upcoming actions. Kudos to him for keeping his word to Belle by trying to reconcile with Clyde. He pays a visit to Clyde at his garage, where he is still working on one of his cars, and attempts to mend fences with a drink as a gesture of peace. However, it doesn’t take long for Clyde to realize that the “peace offering” is merely a ruse: Harlan has an idea, a proposition he strongly believes Clyde should consider. He suggests that Clyde introduce him to Grady and allows Harlan to manage all future operations from thereon. Given his experience, it would be advantageous for everyone if Clyde remained hands-off. Harlan guarantees that the current cut Clyde is receiving will remain unchanged. It’s hard to believe that Harlan presents this questionable deal to Clyde, who shares an equal appetite for power and control as Harlan, and the sheriff is well aware of it. In a show as serious as this one, there hasn’t been a single laugh yet, but I certainly chuckled at their naivety. Fools they may be.
In the garage, tensions escalate between Clyde and Harlan, leading to a physical altercation. At one point, Clyde brandishes a gun, but Harlan unexpectedly grabs a screwdriver and stabs it into Clyde’s jaw and up into his nose. This gruesome scene leaves Clyde dead instantly, while Harlan experiences another heart attack. Thus, the Buckley family’s growing awareness that things are worsening and becoming increasingly dangerous for them is vividly illustrated in this moment.
Bait & Tackle
As a movie enthusiast, I found myself immersed in the intricate plot of this gripping tale. Our protagonist, Marcus, manages to sneak aboard Cane and Harlan’s vessel, thanks to the quick thinking of his ally, Bree. However, the GPS log he acquires doesn’t seem to be enough to persuade his captain to continue the investigation, given the absence of substantial evidence against Cane and the skepticism towards Marcus due to his recent stint in rehab.
Marcus finds himself at a crossroads; with no progress in the case, he might have to depart from this town he now calls home. But that’s not all – the lure of drugs is becoming increasingly hard to resist for our recovering addict. This predicament appears to be a tangled web, especially given Bree’s involvement as a newly sober individual. Quite an enthralling mess, I must say!
Wow, it seems like Bree is showing interest in Shawn. It’ll surely be intriguing once she discovers they are siblings!
• Is Wes too good to be true? He must be up to something, right?
It seems that Jenna’s husband Scott has departed earlier due to his discomfort around ill individuals, as he doesn’t want to be near Jenna’s ailing father. To put it bluntly, Scott isn’t exactly admirable in this situation, and I must confess that I’m eagerly anticipating the moment when she might be unfaithful to him with Cane.
