Actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have experienced this firsthand, given their ongoing legal dispute with director Justin Baldoni over the film “It Ends With Us“. In a recent public event, Reynolds, known for his role in “Deadpool“, seemed to allude to this ongoing situation.
Previously in December, a lawsuit was filed by Lively against Baldoni due to alleged misconduct on the set of “It Ends With Us,” a movie available for streaming with a Netflix subscription. Since then, both parties’ legal teams have been actively working, especially after Baldoni retaliated with a defamation suit seeking $400 million. However, a judge recently dismissed Baldoni’s case. Not long after, Reynolds seems to have referenced this controversy. During the Cannes Lions 2025 event (as reported by Page Six), the actor/director was seen playfully throwing water bottles into the crowd and appeared to mock the legal situation by making a jest about it. In his own words:
I’m not throwing this. I’ve been around lawyers. You can walk up here and grab it.
People quickly linked this to the ongoing legal issues surrounding “It Ends With Us,” without specifically mentioning Baldoni. He found himself in Baldoni’s defamation lawsuit and also filed his own complaint, which likely meant he spent a considerable amount of time with lawyers and the costs must have been quite high.
Over the last few months, there’s been a lot of back-and-forth between both parties’ legal teams that fans have kept up with closely. After Baldoni’s defamation case was dismissed by the judge, it seems Reynolds and Lively have been rejoicing. This might be what prompted the Green Lantern actor to make this spontaneous comment at Cannes.

In my perspective as a supporter, Justin Baldoni’s defamation case dismissal is undeniably a victory for Lively and Reynolds. The actress from “Another Simple Favor” still appears to have her complaint pending, and whether they will indeed meet in court remains uncertain. Should that happen, the public’s curiosity is likely to be piqued, particularly if they decide to take the stand.
In terms of future film projects, both Reynolds and Lively have secured roles, with releases scheduled from 2025 onwards. However, it appears that Justin Baldoni currently does not have any upcoming projects.
