At a popular seafood eatery in New York, they set free an elderly lobster of around 110 years old, which had resided in their aquarium for quite some time.
At Peter’s Clam Bar, a surprising guest made an appearance – a 21-pound, 110-year-old lobster! Though it might seem unusual for a seafood eatery to host a pet, this is exactly what transpired years ago.
As stated by the restaurant’s owner, Butch Yamali, it appears that Lorenzo, the lobster, somehow managed to elude detection and found his way into our aquarium where he stayed for several years.
Yamali said, ‘He turned into a store mascot. Visitors would come to see him and even take photos with him, treating him more as a display item than a living being.’
On National Lobster Day, Yamali chose to celebrate by letting go of his beloved pet, Lorenzo, and made a big event out of returning him to the ocean.
Lobster “pardoned” and freed after years living as restaurant pet
According to UBI’s report, Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and Nassau County Legislator John Ferretti made an appearance at Peter’s Clam Bar in a symbolic gesture known as “pardoning” a lobster.
Yamali stated, ‘Since some lobsters don’t survive for a long time, but this particular lobster did, it seemed fitting to make Father’s Day special by releasing Lorenzo.’

I’ll surely miss him, but I believe this turn of events is for the best. It wouldn’t have been appropriate for him to pass away here, and selling him under those circumstances would have been too difficult.
On Facebook, Peter’s Clam Bar posted pictures from an event, playfully suggesting that Lorenzo was thriving – digging towards liberation and enjoying the briny wind (rather than butter).
As a fellow animal lover, I can’t help but feel that it’s not just lobsters who have found themselves in the midst of strange legal battles. There are numerous instances where pets and even animals in general have encountered complex legal situations.
In the humid month of May, I found myself in an unexpected predicament, much like a certain adventurous feline in Thailand. This stray cat, seemingly lost and bewildered, had quite the brush with the law. You see, after a good Samaritan discovered the cat wandering the streets, it displayed some uncharacteristic behavior towards our local police officers, leading to its temporary detention and the taking of its mugshot – an event that’s typically reserved for humans, not felines!
