Dead By Daylight Hits New Player-Count Record With Five Night’s At Freddy’s Crossover

After the recent launch of the special Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover, Dead by Daylight surpassed its own peaks. On June 17 alone, the multiplayer horror game boasted a staggering 106,029 simultaneous players, shattering its previous record by less than a thousand.

In 2021, a Resident Evil crossover established a new high, featuring Leon and Jill Valentine as the survivors, Raccoon City as the map, and Nemesis as the antagonist. Notably, Dead by Daylight, initially released in 2016, has surpassed concurrent player counts of 90,000 on various occasions, whether with or without crossover events.

In this latest collaboration, we introduce a fresh playable figure – Springtrap from Five Nights at Freddy’s. He carries along aspects from his original series, such as startling animations, spring-loaded doors, and surveillance cameras that influence gameplay mechanics. This crossover also unveils a new location, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

Jay Guzzo, Springtrap’s Killer Designer, emphasized in a statement to TopMob that the gameplay of Five Nights at Freddy’s and Dead by Daylight are polar opposites. In the first game, you primarily spend your time in one room monitoring resources like your battery. On the other hand, Dead by Daylight is more action-packed; standing still will not get you far. The task we faced was to find a way to merge these two contrasting elements. It ultimately boiled down to recognizing what generates the intense tension in Five Nights at Freddy’s and translating it into a dynamic format suitable for our own game.

In Dead by Daylight, Behavior Interactive has assembled an extensive roster consisting of 39 killers and 46 survivors. This lineup encompasses original characters as well as numerous other iconic figures from the horror genre such as Nicolas Cage, Hellraiser, the Demogorgon, and many more. Essentially, it’s like having a star-studded cast of horror legends on your team.
